Subject: Oil Drain Valve IP: Logged
Message:
There has been quite a bit of discussion on this site about the difficulity of draining oil. Some of my customers are using this little device but I'm not sure it will work on your ALL Dakotas:
Oil Drain Valve
This is SIMPLY helpful advice (and hopefully a helpful device) and I don't sell this product. If anyone has tried this gizmo please post your comments here. Or, if you try in it the future please let us all know.
P.S. Might make a great little stocking stuffer.

Message: Steven,
Got one of these after my 1st (messy) oil change.
Works great, hasn't leaked, and the shop that does my oil changes loves it(I got skid plates).
Best,
jc

Thanks johnc,
That was exactly the type of information I was looking for. Many Dakota owners, especially those with skid plates, have been looking for a "solution". My original post alerting everyone to this "device" was in the hopes of helping everyone.

Message: I've never seen one in person before but I don't like them. I wrote Murphy's law ( it should be Jim's law) and it seems that for me if I have the choice of using a valve which could fail or a soild plug which can't I'm gonna use the plug. My luck the valve would fail or open when I'm on a roadtrip. It also looks like it sticks out about an inch and a half making it possible for something to hit it an break it off.

Message: Personally, I think the Fram sure drain is a better design. It doesn't stick out as far to get hit by something and is a much simpler desing with less stuff to fail, plus it includes a cap that covers the valve when not draining oil so even if the valve fails the cap will stop the oil. And as far as Murphys law with the valve opening as you are going down the road, you have just as much a chance of the drain plug falling out.

Message: I'm with HSKR. I have the Fran Sure Drain installed on my truck and it's a well made product. I've yet to have a problem with it. I considered the Fumoto valve system, but with kids around here crawling underneath cars while playing, I didn't want to chance some kid dumping my oil with the simple flip and twist of a valve. So, for those who are a bit paranoid, like me, the Fram Sure Drain does the trick. Just another option and it's cheaper too!

Message: I have several Fumotos installed. Great product. Delivers as stated on the web site, built like a tank and no problems to date. Great if you do oil analysis.
I have 3 of them currently: '91 Explorer V6, '93 Toyota Camry V6, '02 Explorer V6. I've only changed the oil on two of them so far but it having them is worth it in my opinion.
I have not yet installed one on my '02 Dakota but will at the first oil change.

Message: ok Steven here's a question for you. How do i keep the oil filter removal from leaking oil all over my driveway. I tried the 2 liter coke bottle trick, it didn't work. any ideas. it's a 4x4 so the filter comes out thru the wheel well. I know there has got to be a better way?????
