I would turn the O/D off for the strip,its only a .25 mile, but if your going to race any further i would turn the O/D off until i was through the gears and then when in 4TH gear and the RPMs up i would turn it on. Dont turn 4x4 on unless snowy or maybe a SHORT race in the rain MAYBE.

BULLS#@T DON GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A$$. i have not broken anything on mine yet after literally hundreds of passes. my lightning even holds up very well (even though it is a ford)
