I found an ECU in stock at a Dodge Dealership, it also had the best price, just under $200. I replaced it, car runs fine now, no stalling.

But now the Maintenance Required light is on while driving. What controls this light? I just replaced the oxygen sensor... what could it be?

Thanks in advance people,

Igor.

What year is the truck? I know some of the older trucks had the 'Maintance Required' light come on whenever they were due for a tune-up or some other service, and the only way (supposedly) to get the light off was to get your dealer to do it (and guess what, they charge).

It is a 92 V8 Automatic w/ California Emissions.

Ordinarily it is due for a tune up, but i don't need new spark plugs, it starts up sooo quickly and runs so clean I am just going to change the oil.

Is there a way to turn it off of find out what triggers it?

I'm not sure what the years the trucks did that were, but since you've got one, I'd say thats probally it. Ah... lets see, I think my boss just removed the bulb from the instrument cluster...

From what he told me, it's triggered by milage and sort of telling the computer that maintance was done, you can't turn it off. Short of removing the bulb that is. There -may- be another way, but I don't know what it is. You may try reseting the computer (disconnect battery negative lead for 30 seconds or so, turn key to 'RUN' while the battery is disconnected)

What's the mileage on your '92? That light comes on, usually at around 60,000 mi. and multiples of, to remind the owner to take it in for a complete inspection of the emission system. Only way that I have heard (from mechanics too) to turn it off is to hook up the appropriate scanner. HTH.

The mileage is almost 72k. Yes, i hooked it up to an AutoXray generic ODB-I scanner and used the EMR reset function to clear it.

I think 60k is time to change the O2 sensor, which I did.

Thanks to all who've helped me thru this problem.

Merry Christmas,
Igor
