My boss has a buddy who works for the Chrysler proving grounds, and he's always telling me about what's going on over there.

Here's the news..........

You all know about the soon to be released SRT-4. Well, he has heard they are going to offer a performance package on that (I know I thought he was confused with the R/T and SRT-4) But he said this "Performance" SRT-4 will have 2 doors, it'll run 17" wheels wide tires, sits lower and has an addition 50hp over the stock 215hp.

I guess he seen a prototype on the track and it was running 166mph, it didn't get there as quick as a viper but 166mph is amazing in a neon. And then my boss told me how the 166mph will definitely be governed, but well see. He also told me it'll sticker at $27,000 American.

I know I think $27,000 is outrageous to, but it'll be funny as hell to see a neon "out of the box" running mid to high 13's LOL

This is a very reliable source, so it's possible DC is beginning to step it up.......

I think he means this 'performance' SRT-4 with the 2-doors and 50 more hp will cost $27,000. I expect the standard model to be something like $19,999. They said under $20k, but not how much. Still, $7k more for 50hp and 2-doors? That seems a might bit steep, I bet you can add $75+ hp to the 4-door for less than $7k.

Yes Todd, that's what I meant. And your totally right, I sure as hell don't see a neon being worth $27,000, if it was rwd, and had a V8 2 door (mustang camaro) then fine, but for $27,000 you can buy something a lot nicer and more useful, that price range is just outrageous.

And The sticker on the stock SRT-4 is $19,999 (in that range) the SRT-4 is still a four door, this is a 2 door sport version of the SRT-4

Eh, I'll believe it when I see it. Not to discount your source, but there are so many rumors flying around that until it shows up at the dealer to me it's just a concept. (HEMI Dakota anyone?) Chrysler stopped building the 2dr Neon for a reason and hard to believe that they would tool up again just a few years later. Sure it isn't something other than a Neon?

Well, I'm not promising DC will make this thing for production. But I'm just sharing the info that my boss told me. He said he saw a 2 door neon, new body style, slammed to the ground, and running 166mph. Now I laughed my @ss off at him when he told me it was $27,000 but time will tell.

But I will keep ya updated as he finds out more info.

Actually the SRT-4 is supercharged and has 223Hp and runs 13.2's in the 1/4, im only 16 but i know some stuff i got a 99 Dak slamed, 3.9, its fast as hell smoked a 305 on a good day, thats if i hook up. I plan on reprogramming the computer ECU and relocating my heat sensor, new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, throtle body spacer, under drive pulley, and uh whatever else i can... but for factory its a really prepy V6 it breaks the tires loose going 25-30mph.i'm gunna post pics of it soon when i get some better ones. it just got out of the body shop after a run in with 2 ditches and a tree at a high rate of speed, every since then its faster... but im not telling you to slam into a tree.

Actually... the SRT4 is turbocharged. I'm not sure on the other specs. 305s are lame stock, I had one. It pulled 179hp in stock form with it's 2-barrel carburator. Of course, you -can- wake them up (I turned it into a 300+ hp 305).

223HP at the wheels! Wow that is like a 270hp rated engine? Can we say 13's stock for the SRT-4.

If they weren't so bug eyed like the WRX I would get one, plus the back is too high. It needs a nicer slope in the rear. Not round and smashed.

The new SRT-4 looks pretty good, in fact they
test a pre-production model in the newest
Grassroots Motorsports.

But, 103 or 104 in the 1/4 mile....... front wheel
drive without a limited slip differential
available?

OK, right, I'll believe it when I see it.

Smells like a load to me.

A car that traps at 104 should be able to run in
the 12's without a problem.

Hell, my brother just sold his Spirit R/T that
made 230 horsepower and would only run
97mph in the quarter.

Besides I don't care if it has 450 horsepower,
there is NO WAY you're going to be able to 60'
it because of the front wheel drive and no
limited slip.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, and will
give the kids an alternative to the Hondas, but
a drag strip car it's not.

Besides Chrysler's been down this road
before with the Spirit RTand later the Daytona
IROC RT.

The SRT-4 might possibly do 104 in the
quarter if it were being towed behind a new
Viper. Like I said, I'll belive it when I see it.

Lemmers,

I've seen plenty of cars and trucks at the track not hit 12s or low 13s and run high 13s with low 100s mph (101,102,& 103). Anyone with enough track experience knows that a 14.2 @ 104 means one thing, lots of wheel spin! Which tends to happen quite often when a vehicle is not equipped with a limited-slip differential.

Oh, about Chrysler being down the road before, that was in a time when not much was happening in the compact street scene. There are many more people getting into racing today, especially in the division of compact cars! It was just bad timing on Chrysler's part for those two compacts. Same thing happened to GMC's Syclone and Typhoon, both ahead of their time!

Lemmers,

I've seen a slightly modded 3.5L 5 speed Altima run 13.81 @ 102.05. He had stock y pipe and b pipe, single catback exhaust, warm air intake and mid pipe, and stock tires. He took out some weight (spare, rear seat cushion), but has no giggle juice or anything tricky. His best 60' time was 2.17...very respectable. My Maxima can hit 2.2's all day in the 60' dead stock, and it's an automatic. Man, if I had slicks on it I'd be no more than 2.1 secs. It's VERY possible to get a FWD to run. You just have to know how to launch, and how to setup. It's nothing that's going to break the bank either.

Ok time to clear up rumors... Sorry no 2-door SRT-4. It aint gonna happen.

104 mile trap speed, yes. I've ridden in one of the test mule SRT-4's over the summer and until you've actually been in the car and felt it, you will be skeptical.

The SRT-4 has equal length drive shafts, which help it control the power. Look for a LSD for the 2004 model year.

The SRT-4 is rated at 215hp@245lb. Other magazines such as Mopar Action and others have gotten 233whp.

There are 3 upgrades for this car from Mopar. 25,50 and 75HP. The intercooler is big enough to handle anything thats thrown at it, it was designed specfically for that.

ok you'll say... he's new and just posting BS.. I would too if I were you.. however Check out www.neons.org... we have the inside track to PVO and have been the main place for srt-4 info.

Now to complete perfection... I just need a Dakota to pull my Neon with :)

Have you seen the new Nissan VQ35DE engines big_torque? They have some rather inticate intake and exhaust systems.

Mid pipe is on the intake system
Same for B pipe (there is a B pipe on exhaust, too)
Warm air intake does not take in air from the outside, but rather the interior of the engine bay (hence, warm air).
