Message: don't let them get you... you can't tell a 4 from a 6 from a 8 sitting at a light. Plus you get a lot more storage space under the hood. And i bet you got it at a real good price.
isn't there a v6 for sale on the board
good luck

Message: Hey V8Power, he -did- say "or even better ask why you only have half an engine."...
Half of 8 is 4.
Before you call someone a dumbass, make sure you won't look like one yourself. Dumbass :0)
Sorry 2.5ltr, I don't know much about modding the 4 cyl. I'd probally look into a cold air intake though, higher-flow muffler (if you coffee-can it, I'll beat you badly!), some Autolite 3923 spark plugs, a brass-contact cap/rotor assembly, and probally look into converting it to an electric fan (I think the 4s have a clutch fan, don't they? Thats good for some umph!). Heh, while your at it, might as well put an underdrive pully on it.

Message: I've heard you can take the throttle body off of a Jeep 4.0 motor and bolt that on. Mopar has several cams for it and roller rockers.

Message: Dude there are multiple things that you can do to get a little more power out of that 4 banger. Some people arent aware that there are a few 300+Horsepower 4 cyl engines out there. But thats another story. Heres just a few things that will help you: Start off with a K&N with a homemade intake, dont waste money on an expensive system when you can build your own. Get some bigger plug wires and a better cap and rotor. Dynomax, or Flowmaster will make for a better exhaust set up. I use Dyno max. Switch to synthetic oil, just cause!
Run your fingers over my truck, and I'll run over your fingers with my truck!

Message: I also have a 98 Dakota 4-banger and did a few mods to it myself. Changing the intake and muffler will give you the most performance gain.
Heres a list of mods I have done to my truck. The mods were done over a period of over 3 years sinces I bought the truck.
Airaid Intake
Powertone Sportstone Muffler
Accel 8.8mm plug wires
Mallory Hyfire VI A Ignition Box
MSD Blaster 2 Coil
Jeep 4.0 Throttle body
Poweraid Throttle body spacer.
To be frank I got most of the performance gains from the Airaid Intake and Powertone muffler. Upgrading the ignition sytem with the Mallory IV A Ignition Box, Blaster 2 Coil, and Accel wires gave me a little quicker acceleration, and help the engine run smoother especially in the higher rpms where it usually bogs on me. The Larger Throttle Body along with the Poweraid throttle body Spacer seemed to move the the torque band down some so there is more torque available sooner. I also have a Jet Stage 2 but I'm not using it cause I couldn't really tell any difference in performance when I was using it plus. Maybe I'm crazy or stupid to spend this kind of money on a 4-banger Dakota but I don't like people telling me that I should do or should not do. Its my money and I'll spend it the way I want to spend it.

Message: I bought a used 01 Dakota with a 4-banger in it and it runs fine. I've had absolutely no problems with the engine (more problems with AC leaking than anything else). I've got my cold air intake and exhaust. I'm looking into a throttle body and spacer next. I was looking into performance throttle bodies for the Wrangler 2.5, but was unaware that you could bolt on a Jeep 4.0 body. By doing that, should I order a Throttle body spacer for the 2.5TB or 4.0TB? I never really thought of upgrading plug wires and everything. But as far as a used 2.5 being worth the cost of it's body...BS

Message: Hey the best truck (next to my 4.7 cc) i ever owned was a 87 dodge 4 cly mitsubishi motor. When i bought the truck it had 170k miles on it. When i sold it, it had 196k miles on it. Bought the truck from the original owner the only thing he did was rebuild the head at around 130k or so. Never had any problems with that truck at all what so ever, and it was awsome on gas. But thats another story.

Message: I sort of doubt you'd be running any 12s just by dropping in a neon engine, which is made to hook up to a FWD trannie and sit in the bay sideways, and then hooking up boost, which I'm guessing is your word for a nitrous injection system, better known as NOS since the F&F movie. The truck probably out weighs the neon by a good bit anyway.
