Subject: Who's ordered a Hemi? IP: Logged
Message: I'm talking about a RC 1500 Ram. I'm about to do so whenever I can unload my current ride ('01 Dak CC 4.7).
How much did ya'll pay? I'm looking at a best price (so far) of $18,778. Does that sound about right,,no pwr. of course,,but in a reg. cab it's not really needed in my opinion. I'll be getting the '17 wheel package to save on up front price, as well as future tire purchases,,,which will be quite frequent I think :)
So who's ordered?,,and how much did ya'll pay?

Dodge Flexes Legendary HEMI(R) Muscle with the 2003.5 Dodge ...
November 5, 2002: 12:00 a.m. EST
LAS VEGAS (PRNewswire) - Dodge, the brand that defined the muscle car when it unleashed the legendary 426 Street HEMI(R), is bringing big HEMI muscle to light-duty trucks.
Dodge today announced the introduction of the Dodge Ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum, the most powerful engine option offered in a mass produced light-duty pickup truck. The 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum delivers 345 horsepower and 375 lb.-ft. of torque accompanied by an unmistakable V-8 burble that can only be a HEMI.
"With the HEMI Magnum equipped Dodge Ram 1500 joining the all-new Dodge Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500, Dodge has the strongest line-up of full-size trucks in the industry," said Richard O. Schaum, Executive Vice President - Product Development & Quality, Chrysler Group. "The new HEMI distinguishes Dodge from the competition by offering a monstrous 345 horsepower across our full range of trucks, not just special editions and sport packages."
Modern technology meets tried and true combustion with the all-new 5.7- liter HEMI Magnum. The use of the classic HEMI (hemispherical) head design creates optimal air flow, while twin spark plugs, direct ignition and Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) allow for smooth, efficient operation. Composite air-flow modules combine with cross-flow aluminum heads, splayed valves and investment cast rocker arms to deliver an awesome 100 horsepower increase and an additional 40 lb.-ft. of torque compared with the 5.9-liter Magnum.
Fuel efficiency is also improved by 10 percent over the 5.9-liter, while the new HEMI Magnum engine is approximately 60 lbs. lighter in weight. The 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum debuted in the all-new Dodge Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 as the standard engine offering, and replaces the 5.9-liter Magnum V-8 in the entire Dodge Ram truck line-up.
"Sales of the new Dodge Ram 1500 are up 32 percent this year and there is no way we are going to let that momentum slow," said Darryl Jackson, Vice President of Dodge Marketing. "With the new 5.7-liter HEMI in the light-duty Dodge Ram 1500, there is nothing slow about Dodge Ram. We have customers coming into showrooms just to listen to the new HEMI. This engine builds upon the principles that created the Dodge Ram mystique -- bold styling, big power and unmatched capability and we expect 40 percent of Ram 1500 customers to choose the new HEMI option."
The 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum is offered as a $795 option and will be available with the 5-45RFE five-speed automatic transmission. Chrome HEMI Magnum badging on the front fenders designate the new engine on all Dodge Ram pickup trucks. The 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum engine increases the Ram 1500's Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) by 500 lbs. to 14,000 lbs. versus the 5.9- liter Magnum equipped Ram 1500. The Gross Trailer Weight Rating (GTWR) increases by 550 lbs. to 9,200 lbs.
"When it's time to work, the Dodge Ram 1500 will work hard," said Frank Klegon, Vice President, Truck Product Team. "But with the 345 horsepower HEMI Magnum, the Dodge Ram is ready to play hard too. Punch this engine on the highway, and you know you have a HEMI under your hood."
In 1951, Chrysler introduced the HEMI V-8 engine to the public. The engine produced 180 horsepower, an impressive output in those days. The first cars to carry the new engine were the New Yorker and Saratoga lines. Between 1951-53, HEMI engines were offered on the Chrysler and Imperial, DeSoto and Dodge. Although the engines carried different names -- "Firepower," "Firedome" and "Red Ram" -- and were manufactured in separate facilities, they shared a similar design approach with each engine having its own size range.
The Dodge Ram 1500 is built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan and at the St. Louis (MO) North Assembly Plant. The 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum is built in Saltillo, Mexico. The all-new 2003 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty trucks are built at the Saltillo, Mexico and St. Louis North Assembly Plants.

Message: Nope,,just like in DakotaDan's article there,,,they're orderable in the 1500's now,,and should be in Texas (don't now about elsewhere) by end of Dec. / early Jan. timeframe.
I just need to get rid of my '01. I owe over $18k,,and trade-in looks like about $13k if I'm lucky.
Is it illegal if you don't tell them that you had an accident, if they never ask??? heheeee - Nearly every time I've traded in a vehicle,,they either don't even look at it,,,or don't check the history,,,pretty crazy.

5spd auto is nice, but some of us prefer to shift our own gears.
I had a 96 Ram at one point. It was a club cab...The thing was just too big for me. By the time the HEMI makes it into the Dak, I hope they are offering it with a manual tranny.

Message: I personally don't think DC will put the Hemi in the Dakota, to much power for such a light weight truck. My bet is when they run out of 3.9's & 5.9's the Dak will get the newer 3.7 and if the R/T is still around it might get a HO version of the 4.7

Haha...I have over 370HP and well over 400Tq into my R/T all motor and could still handle more. Trust me the Hemi isn't too much.

never asked, I never told. plus the drivers
door handle had a hole in it where somebody
tried to pry it off and steal the POS! I traded it
in dropped 5/6 and beat to hell. I got $7500
for it (1998 model w/ 60,000 miles) and was
tickled cause I only paid 9,999 for it 3 years

$10,000 for your dak try ebay, just set the

Message: When they made the Dakota R/T they didn't wanna spend time changing the old 5.9 engine so they just used the same one they had been using in the rams. I'm pretty sure they'd been developing the 5.7 Hemi and spending all its time on getting it past the 300 HP mark therefore doing away w/ the old 5.9
So why spend time changing an engine they knew they'd be doing away with.

Message: Hey D,
Alot has to do w/the economy for me not getting jack on my truck. The used car market really bites for sellers, when new cars are getting cheaper, and cheaper ,,plus interest rates are incredibly low. Plus with all those people buying new cars,,,alot of them are trading in so there's more used cars on the market now,,who would want to pay more for one now?,,
Just sux cause I'm a very impulsive person when it comes to buying a new vehicle. I get in that mood that well all know so well,,and just do it (not after a ton of research though).
Earlier today I was thinking, "if I could get $13K on my truck as trade, I'd do it!" I would be $5K flip-flopped,,,stupid. But that's how I am unfortunately. I'd like to sell,,but that might leave me w/out a vehicle till my 'ordered' truck arrives,,and who-knows when that might be.
Just ramblin,,,,in a bad mood (gf issues). Man,,I'd love to see what that truck (RC RAM 5.7) would do in the quarter. Anyone have any idea? - an educated guess?,,,I would love nothing better than to win the lotto, buy that truck, and light both of those tires up to tune of 345ponies as scream my way out of my job!!!!!! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.
Maybe I could ask Santa!?

Yes, and no.
Where as a person who generally buys five year old vehicles, now buys a three year. Just because the deals are so good doesn't mean we all can afford a brand new one. So people who buy ten year old cars are buying a little newer. Thus the whole spectrum of buyers are actually buying a little newer. The price might be low, but there is sure as hell a demand for a couple year old used vehicle. I am not sure how many buyers are in what portion of the spectrum however.
At least you do not own an Audi or Taurus. Have you seen the price on those two lately? You can buy a 2001 A6 for around 26K and even under, one owner, emaculate condition. Ouch, there's a kick in the nuts to the original owner.
Our current state in the economy isn't changing anytime soon, or will it very quickly -- IMHO. You pretty much have to find out how much the general buyer is willing to pay for your vehicle. I would try Edmund's True Market Value Calc for starters. Then maybe see what others like yours are selling -- this means that they SELL for, not just list, lol -- for.
