Subject: installing new small block IP: Logged
Message: The dealership is installing a new small block on monday. (Truck is 3 weeks old!-new 2001)
2 questions:
How competent do you think they are in installing a new engine?
I've heard if the vin numbers do not match, I will have trouble selling it in the future. Is this true?

Message: The dealer should have no problem with putting the engine in,as far as the numbers matching,I wouldn't worry because someone would have to get to the engine tag(which is usually very hard to see)to get the numbers to see if they match.I have been dealing with cars and trucks for sometime know and have seen cars come from the factory without mathing numbers. The one thing is whats wrong with the truck to need a new enine?

Message: Sorry about the truck,I dont have no complaints about mine, well there was the time when I firt got it that the clock spring in the steering wheel broke and I lost power to my airbag, horn and cruise control.Easy fix from the dealer.Have you tried to get a new truck from them?I dont know what has changed but it seems to me that the 2001 models have some quality problems. My dokota has not had any of the problems that has been posted.

Message: Whoa, Deja Vu! Back a couple years ago when I bought a 98 neon, I brought it to my 5 star chrysler dealer for a ticking noise. They couldn't figure out what it was coming from, so they replaced the small block. I had no complaints when it was done - the engine ran quiter and smoother than ever. The neon was a couple months old, so I feel the anguish there - but I never had another problem with it - I ended up trading it in with like 60k on it, So, good luck, and it may not be that bad. Just some words of encouragement. Oh, and they replaced it in 4 days, and gave me a loaner car.

Message: Ok, just a little pet peave of mine. A SMALL BLOCK is a V8 engine with a small cubic inch displacement, such as 318 or 360. A SHORT BLOCK, which is what your dealers replaced, is the lower reciprocating assembly such as block, pistons, crank, and rods. If you go to a parts store to order a small block, you get a complete engine. Go there and order a short block, you get the lower half. Sorry to be such a jerk about it, but you know how parts guys can be.

Message: Peter,
Is yours a 4.7?? I had a short block replaced in my 2000 last week. (short block is head deck down, long block is complete engine) no problems now.
Will it hurt the price on resell?? I dunno man- I sure hope not. It shouldn't IMO, because the mechanic who works on it should have more pride in that truck than the kids on the assembly line that see 100 engines a day...
