Message:
NICE! I just checked Dodge's site and they have the 5.7L hemi available to the RC 2WD Ram 1500s! They didn't last week -- I checked. Hell yes, I bet that would make for a nice "little" truck. Now, where to try one out...

CHECK IT OUT!

Well, lets see, there will be a Kenne Bell for this engine sometime this Spring and I bet a couple others are soon to follow. With a supercharger -- just like the Lightning -- it should pound it in the dirt.

Not to mention, this truck even with the Laramie package (new SLT+) with a supercharger comes in less than a Lightning. Now there's direct competition.

Depends on the package you get. The Laramie package makes the vehicle pretty spendy, but you can get the 2WD RC 1500 w/ the HEMI on the most basic down to earth model. For the most part, when I built mine, mine came out to around 26 MSRP + 4000 for a supercharger and 300 for some new gears. I think it's a fair match for our Lightning buds.

Well fellas, looks like I'm going to a dealer this weekend to work on ordering my 1500 Ram with the Hemi. That means the little Dakota is going bye bye! Love the idea...345 horse in a "non-special edition" truck, what a fabulous concept. I just built one at the Dodge web-site, and got all I wanted (as far as options), and the Hemi for 29,000. I'm stoked.

Don't worry...I still have my '92 RC Dakota, which I'll never part with. Now I can tow it to the racetrack with my Hemi Ram!

The only thing I'm a little worried about is that this is the first model year with the Hemi, and that it had an Electronically-Controlled Throttle.

I can see something like that going out on you when you half way in between "no-where" and "no-chance". Oh well...I guess I'll have to test drive one and see what it is like.

I'm sure I'll like it...HEE HEE, then the papers will be signed, and the truck will be ordered.

My mind has been poisoned...I've got all of these V6 parts laying on the floor in my bedroom, waiting to go on the Dak, and now all that I can think of is 1500 RC HEMI! It's a plot by extra-terrestrials to take over our minds, make us obssessed by thoughts of Hemi-madness, and, while we can't think of anything else, they slip in behind us and take over the world! How would a HEMI look with huge horn speakers in the back, playing Slim Whitman, like they did in "Mars Attacks"...what a great movie!!

I went to the dealer today to price one out...

They just called me back, and said it was right around $26k - BUT w/all the rebates he gave me a price of about $22K - OVER THE FREAK'N PHONE! HAHAHAAAAA.
Now with a little bit of haggling,,I'm willing to bet I can get the baby (Graphite or White RC - '03 5.7 1500 / 3.92 LS / Pwr everything) for $20K,,maybe less!!! (ya right!) Sweeeeeeet.
Plus!, since it will be one of the first in the area, they might be willing to hook me up again w/me doing some advertising for them. And ya,,I'll put on some stupid stickers if nocks a little mo'off the price.

He said it would be around 4-6 weeks before it would get here. Now,,I haven't ordered it yet,,,but man,,,it's just too tempting. Especially if they'll give me what I owe on my '01 4.7.

Heheheeeee. Merry Xmas to me!

Hey!,,Anyone want to do a GB on these things at my dealership? Hahahaa (seriously?.....)

If I buy one I'll scan a copy of the paperwork so ya'll can show your salesman if you're getting screwed or not! I can usually work out some pretty good deals on my vehicles.

It's funny I went to the dealership to pick up a new chrome 'Dodge' badge (like what the new Rams wear),,and might end up w/a new Ram. :)

ZenDak, I priced out a RC SLT w/a 3.92 anti-spin rear, AT, Sport Appearance Group, and a bedliner at just over $25K on the Dodge website. My '02 Dak is Graphite, and I'd like to keep that color, or maybe go with Garnet Red. So, from what you're saying, I figure that I should be able to get this truck for somewhere around $21 or $22K? That ain't too bad...I know they've got a $2K rebate on Rams going. Wow, if I could nab one for $20 or $21K, I just might have to do it. I'd consider a GB if the savings would warrant it...might be fun to drive one home from TX to KC...

I'd be interested in seeing that paper work if you take the bait...P

I forgot what it priced out when I did it on the web. (I'm dial up at home= SUX! - I might do it later,,I'm spoiled by the T3 at work)

The dealer called up and 'said' it'd be $26K,,but immediately repented w/, "Well we'll probably hook you up for around $22K." Since he belted that out over the phone, I'll hold him to it when we talk face to face again. I'll bargain down from there. I really want to keep the payments under $400 a month,,but we'll see. I also have a Graphite Dak. - '01. I want to get the Ram in either in Graphite, or Bright white.
I'll definitely let everyone know what's up when I get some hard numbers from the guy.

If someone's serious about getting one at the same time from the dealer I'm buy from I'm all about it! I mean they'll be sure to drop the price for that alone,,and everyone wins. This of course is all talk till we some numbers, but it's cool to think about.

DETROIT - All those dealer incentives to buy a new car are affecting the used-car market.

Prices for late-model used vehicles are at their lowest levels in years, driven down in part by zero-percent financing and other incentives that have been a trademark of the industry for more than a year.

Those lucrative deals have prompted many people to trade in their rides for new ones, boosting used-car inventories nationwide, observers say. Also, relatively flat new-vehicle prices in recent years have kept prices down on most used vehicles, they say.

"The incentives have been good, not only for consumers looking for new cars, but it's also been good for the typical used-car buyer," said Paul Taylor, chief economist for the National Automobile Dealers Association. "What we find across the board is upgrading - somebody who might buy a 5-year-old used car is buying a 3-year-old car, and someone who might buy a 2-year-old car is buying something new."

Nationally, used-vehicle prices have fallen 3.4 percent in the past year and 5.2 percent since the beginning of 2002, said Tom Webb, chief economist for the Manheim Auctions Used Vehicle Value Index.

Dealers say used cars that sold for $12,000 a year ago are moving for $10,000 now.

Manheim says leased vehicles returned to dealers at the end of their contracts also have added to the number of used cars on the market.

Mr. Webb said he expects used-vehicle prices to stabilize a bit this month, but values remain at levels not seen in years.

"During the '92 recession, prices were not this weak," he said.

While some dealers are experiencing gluts of vehicles, others are selling their used stock at record levels.

Mike Szettella, used-car manager at George Matick Chevrolet in Redford Township, outside Detroit, said October was his best month for used-car sales in eight to 10 years.

Ricky Thomas, general manager at Mack Grubbs Motors in Bogalusa, La., a General Motors and Ford dealer, said he's selling used models as quickly as he can get them. Mr. Thomas said most of his used inventory is from trade-ins on new vehicles.

"Most of your buyers in this part of the country worry about their monthly note, and right now we can put them in a little better car and keep them at a good note," Mr. Thomas said.

Used-vehicle prices are down across the board, Manheim says, but the biggest declines have occurred in the compact and mid-size car segments - the models often included in rental and other fleets.

U.S. automakers have been offering some type of incentive for many years, but the latest battle began in September 2001 with GM's "Keep America Rolling" no-interest financing promotion.

Ford and Chrysler followed, leading to a torrid sales pace at the end of last year. The incentives, however, have narrowed profit margins and soured many investors on automaker stocks this year.
