These knobs are milled from 6061 aluminum to give your dash a unique, eye-catching shine distinguishing your dash from the rest. Dressing up your vehicle is one of the most rewarding upgrades that you can do.
These billet knobs are available in either a polished or brushed aluminum finish. Two different types are being created to handle a wide variety of models:
Model 1: 1997-2000 Dakota, 1998-2000 Durango, 1998-2001 Ram.
Model 2: 2001-2003 Dakota, 2001-2003 Durango
NOTE: I have not seen the dashes of 2002+ Rams to know if these knobs are compatible. See photos for comparison.

As much as I love the way the Nu Image gauge faces look, I'll never attempt another group buy with them ever again. All of these shipping delays and other problems are really making my head spin.
Lucky for me I get free long distance with my cellular phone or I'd really be in a bind.

To be fair to Nu Image a bit, they are a manufacturer and not a retailer. They are not staffed or equipped to deal with individuals buying their products... They have a production staff that builds stuff, and a sales staff that typically only deals with distributors. Big distributors usually order their products in bulk and in advance, so production and shipping delays aren't much of a factor... They just drop in an order, and when it arrives at their warehouse it's just thrown on a shelf with a bunch of others that were already sitting there. (For those in the know, Nu Image is not a dropship manufacturer). Them doing this group buy is out of the norm for their usual business.
On the other hand, being out of stock on products for over 30 days, especially considering they knew this group buy was underway more than 30 days before that, is completely unexcusable. I realize they underwent a design change that forced them to purge their stocks and wait for new production, but they should have communicated any issues they were having ahead of time instead of forcing us to wait until after the agreed shipping date to notify us of new issues, and not alerting me to the backorder status of particular products until I open the box and find that they're missing.

Polished aluminum items have a mirror-like finish. They're very bright and reflective, but scratches and fingerprints show up on them easier than brushed knobs.
Brushed aluminum items are 'scratched' directionally then clearcoated, giving an alternate appearance that is still relatively shiny but a lot easier to maintain once clear coated. If you take a look at the pictures of the billet fuel doors I have posted on my website's group buys page (www.dakota-durango.com/groupbuys.html), that is what brushed aluminum looks like.
The manufacturer of the knobs only supplies them with a polished finish. A separate company will take a batch of knobs and apply the brushed look to a batch of knobs for an additional charge, hence the extra cost (for the labor plus 2nd shipping).

Pictures of the knobs for 2001-2003 Dakotas/Durangos and 2002-2003 Rams (Model #2) are now available on my group buys page, as well as a picture of what the Ram's head engraving looks like.
The Ram's Head engraving is not exactly like the Dodge version because of copyright issues. These knobs are a brand new design specially generated for the group buy therefore Billet Pro didn't have any time to go through the lengthy process of licensing the logo from Dodge, so the design must be different (The Chevy moles got upset back when they did bowtie knobs so they had to acquiesce for all new models).
Since we are already closing in on the maximum discount, I will be sending out payment information within a week to those who have pre-ordered knobs via e-mail. Dave at Billet Pro will begin production on the group buy's knobs at the end of next week (a different group buy for PT Cruisers is in front of us for production this week), so people who pay early for polished knobs will receive them as soon as they're produced. All of the brushed knobs are being sent to a second company after they are produced in one big batch, so they won't ship out until after the group buy is complete.

I was going to get in on the group buy, but I realized that those knobs aren't night-time friendly. (the notch doesn't illuminate in the dark)

I was looking at the design of the factory knobs and lighting and it looks to me that they could just drill a small hole at the tip of slot close to edge, the light should shine through enough to make it nighttime friendlier, you really wouldn't need much to make it visible in the dark. It shouldn't take away from their good looks during the day IMO if the hole is kept around 1/8" or smaller. Wonder if they would do that for my sets?
Steve, would do you think, could they "tap" my two sets for me like I described? I'll sign a waiver that I won't complain that I don't like them when I get'em:) If not, I prolly do it myself.
