It is funny how much the TV cable adjustment can change the way a tranny shifts!
The 1 to 2 and 3 to 4/OD shifts were fine, but the 2nd to 3rd shift has been very erratic; It would rev to 3500+ (and the tranny slip, it seemed) before the Dakota would shift into 3rd. I adjusted the cable today (it was too loose) and it shifts like a new truck!
It is also unbelievable how much a SLIGHT adjustment in the TV cable makes on how a tranny shifts- I had to re-adjust it a few times, then test-drive the truck, before I got it up-shifting perfect.
I'm glad that I don't need a new or rebuilt transmission! I would suggest that anyone who thinks that they have a transmission going bad, because of erratic shifting, adjust the TV cable FIRST!!!

Yep, my manual has a hole bunch of diagnostic charts to look at before delving into anything major.
It's the little things that count!!
