Subject: First ticket IP: Logged
Message: 67 ina 54.. Was driving down the street doing 52 and was passed by a red truck. I saw the cop and was like damn he's screwed. Drive down the street a few miles and make some turns. Pull into my school parking lot and whoop whoop, pulled over. He wouldn't show me the radar so I said alright. He came back and showed me that it said 64, I then asked him how he could write 67 as the max speed. He didn't go into details. This is my first ticket and I don't know what to do court wise. I guess I am going to have to take defensive driving so it doesn't go to my record. Anyone in Texas know what I should do? Any help will be appreciated. Do I plead quilty to speeding since I was doing 52 in a 45 or no contest? Thanks

Message: I would talk to a lawyer and see what he says. Some will do free consults. If all else, just take the driving school which you can do online in less than 1 hour and keep it off your record.

Message: were you doing 52 in a 45 or 67 in a 45, what's the ticket say. That is what you were doing, the other is what you think you were doing. You do want to keep it off your record for insurance purposes and first timers, they may/usually give you a break unless you cop an attitude. Arguing may make you feel good but in the end you lose. don't know the details but talk to folks you trust.

Message: The ticket says 67, but the gun showed 64. I don't know. Honestly I am not sure what I was doing, but the road was turning and I know how it feels to be doing 70 and be taking a turn on a road. The truck leans and all of that. I guess the speed doesn't matter really, I got the ticket and I have to take defensive driving. My friend told me he only paid court costs (45) and defensive driving(20) and didn't pay his ticket. I think i'm gonna get stuck with this big ticket. Least it won't be on insurance, but damn i'm flustered. When the cop left I appologized for any attitude I might have given him, but I didn't. My passanger heard it all and the cop was rude. Ohwell..

Message: Plead no contest and ask the judge for defensive driving class and will give you a date to do it by and then get it done and go back to the judge and show him and all is well. Hell you can even mail it, but here in the good city of dallas I dont recoment mailing it, do everything in person. I have had many tickits already here in dallas and they have the tenodoncy to issue warents because they lost something.

Message: you were going 22 mph over the speed limit. period. you're not out to prove the cop wrong or to discredit him - he does this every day for a living. you are young and the road was good and your mind was on school work you had to do. It's your first one take it in stride. You oughta hear the stories in trafic court. Go in as a good kid. Thats my 2 cents worth.

Message: Get a lawyer to take care of it, you can plead guilty to a non-moving violation and keep it off your record. My insurance went up by 600 per year b/c of one ticket.
When I was 21 I'd had 21 moving violations taken care of by lawyers.... and now I have a "superior driver" rating at my insurance :-) :-)

Message: The complete got a total attitude it was funny. My dad was on the phone listening to the whole convo the entire time. The first thing he said was, "Half the stuff he said is b/s". And it was. It isn't worth arguing over. I was just mad that he had enough nerve to take advantage of me. Writting 67 when the gun showed 64 just proves half of it. Nothing less, I know I wasn't doing 60 and that's what can't be told here. Ohwell, what's done is done. 45 dollars for court fee, 20 for Defensive driving, and hopefully not the 180$ ticket. Ohwell, ill make my date soon, be sure to keep ya'll up to date:)
Until then

Message: While I lived in MI, I had gotten 4 tickets between the ages of 16-19. I contested every one in court. There is no cost to contest a ticket in MI. If the cop doesn't show up for the date or if he doesn't provide a written statement in his absence, then you automatically win. The worse case scenario is that you have to pay the ticket and get the points on your record. Every time I fought the ticket, I got something out of it. I either got the points knocked off or the fine waived.
I had gotten pulled over for doing 81 in a 55. I knew the cop was full of it because I was actually going 120. He just guessed because he saw me flying by in the opposite direction. I fought the ticket and the cop showed up. He came over to me and offered me 65 in a 55. I thought that was fair and plead guilty to 65 in a 55. If the cop actually had his radar on like he said he did, I would have been nailed for 120 and wreckless driving. I was 19, young and dumb. I haven't had a ticket since (13 years).

Message: Go to a lawyer, and have him ask for a jury trial. The court will usually drop the charges, because it costs so much money to have a jury trial. The lawyer is expensive, but a lot cheaper than the insurance increase.

Message: Wish you luck. I didn't have any. man I got some tickets. got tickets while going to definsive driving. got kicked out of defensive driving for that, got probation, got more tickets, there was some payoffs, some politicians involved. They actually issued a warrant for my arrest for speeding tickets and not showing up in court. i had cops follow me home. It may have been the dual glass packs and the mustang. I was innocent. anyway last two times the cops actually let me off. also got a radar detector

Message: Fight every ticket in court and plead "Not Guilty".
First go to the informal hearing. If the cop doesn't show, all charges are dropped. If the cop does show and you are found guilty, you are allowed to appeal to a formal hearing. Go this route. Also, ask the courthouse for a copy of the cop's training in radar and all calibration records for the radar gun used. If any of this paperwork is out-of-date, missing, or the police won't provide it the judge must dismiss the case.

Message: right now i have no points on my record. got rid of the mustang and changed my ways. now I keep up with the traffic not in front of it. remember the cops notice the car that's going faster than everybody else DAH real simple. everybody does speed limit or faster and if your the fastest one..got ya.
And I quit arguing. one time i asked a cop what are you going to do if i don't sign the ticket. He said ..throw you on the hood of your car, grab you by the back of your head, kick your feet apart, handcuff you, throw you on the ground, drag you to the cop car and haul you to jail.
I signed and shut up.
