Subject: Oil Pressure low? Check Guage Light? IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I have a 98 V6 3.9, and once in a blue moon, ill be driving and my oil pressure bottoms out and my check guage light comes on, then it'll pop back up and the light goes off. also under normal driving conditions my oil pressure guage is about 1 or 2 needles width above the low end of normal.. i think it is 40? but anyhow, any help w/ this check guage thing would be appreciated, cause it is freaking me out? is my oil pump about to go?? what should my normal oil pressure be?? Thanks! Eric.

Message: There have been some rather common reports of the oil-pressure sending units going bad. If your getting random bottom-outs and then it comes back, I'd probally suspect this to be the case. You can either get a mechanical gauge and hook it up to see if the reading you -are- getting is correct, or just replace the sending unit and hope that was it. If your oil pressure is hitting 0, you should be able to hear the lifters collapse pretty darned quick (rapid-fire click/pings)
