After my HO cam install, the increased torque and HP are no problem.

However, much to my suprise, my CRUISE CONTROL works better, I notice the difference at activation. I think it has something to do with the vacuum. Before, it would surge when activated, then settle in and work fine. Now(HO), when applied, the cruise just takes right over, no initail throttle surge. Go figure, but I'm glad.

And of course it pulls my sailboat better at the lower rpm's in 5th gear (5spd MANUAL).

The better low end torque noticed while towing was a given, but the cruise control change for the better really suprised me!

Todd,

I finished my H.O. cam install on Monday night and like you said, loved the added torque. I have not yet used the cruise control but now that you've posted this I'll be sure to try it out tonight to see if that "surge" you speak of is gone as I too noticed it when the cruise first engaged.

Regards,
Aaron

Never had aproblem with the criuse control, before or after HO install. Maybe you inadvertantly 'fixed' something...like a loose wire or loose sensor? I would guess that the intake manifold vacuum would be ever-so-sligthly less than stock (?).

Since I've got a gauge on mine - the vacuum actually shows to be a little stronger.... when it's not showing boost. ;>)

Todd,

I checked the cruise control last night and just like you said, it engages much smoother now. In fact, you can't even detect the transition as it's now seamless. Very smooth. Excellent observation.

From what I think I know about N-jins, and stuff, I still think for SOME reason it has to do with a slight difference in vacuum. There were no harnesses 'fixed' or anything like that. It worked fine before, as Selcher stated though, now there is no 'surge' when engaged. Thanks for the compliment about the observation.

Todd

and says" The cruise control cable is activated by a vacuum siphoned off the intake manifold, If you trace the cable from the trottle you will see a , well hard to describe but a short squatty tin can that it leads into. That is a vacuum diaphram. So any change in vacuum that goes on in the intake manifold will affect the way your cruise control "feels"".

Speaking of HO cams, does anyone have the exact cam specs that they would be willing to email me? Heres what I'm looking for number wise:
Int. Lift
Exh. Lift
Int. Duration (in total degrees of rotation)
Exh. Duration (in total degrees of rotation)
Centerline

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Played with my cruise control last night...Damn! You are correct Sir! It works much better now. I always thought it worked good, better than other car's cruise controls I've used, but, damn, its like seamless. like you said!

Did any of you guys notice that the exhaust tone has changed as well? Maybe I'm the only one noticing this because I still have the OEM exhaust on my truck (for now) but really, the exhaust note is a bit raspier, which I like very much! These H.O. cams are a great mod. Who was the first person to do/try this? I'd like to thank the brave guinea pig.

P.S. Is there a break in time for these things? For instance, after a certain amount of miles do they perform better?

Regards,
Aaron

Glad to bring it to your attention.

Selcher,

I too have the stock exhaust, and also have noticed a slight change in the tone, sounds a little 'meaner' now. I have a homebrew intake, with K&N. If I do ANY exhaust mods, I DON'T want much louder at all.

Why do people, especially truck drivers, think their truck is 'badder' because they have loud duals? Really annoying in the neighborhood!

Todd,

When I do upgrade my exhaust, it won't be to duals. It'll just be a simple muffler change and possibly the removal of the 3rd cat. I don't want it to be too much louder either, just more throaty. I have a homebrew intake on mine as well and that makes the truck turn heads as it is. It's a good day to own a Dakata!

Aaron
