Subject: High beam column switch IP: Logged
Message: Hi Dakota fans, I'm here asking a question for a friend. I ran through the archives and came up blank so I am posting a question.
Friend a has a'99 dakota. Click the switch on the column for the brights and he gets his brights, click it again for the Low beams and he gets nothing. It appears that his column switch is bad. Is this column switch a common problem with this truck or is this a freak thing and maybe not his problem at all?

Message: Try this quick remedy. Get some electronic contact cleaner from any Auto parts store. Spray it where the high beam switch intersects the steering column. Switch the dims/highs up and down a few times and see if the problem works its way out. I had the same problem; worked on it for about 10-15 minutes and I have not had a problem in about 10 months. I spray the cleaner in there about once a month just to make sure. I like the added assurance that the lights will not just go out while I am driving if I switch down to low beams. Try the cleaner and see if it works. May end up being much cheaper than the switch.
