Subject: REAR ABS VALVE IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone removed the rear abs valve from the frame rail and had their brakes function normally? I am more than likely going to do this, seeing as a rebuilt valve is $360 PLUS the core. The only thing I was wondering was if the front prop. valve is the same if you do / don't have rear abs.
Any thoughts

Message: I do believe all Daks have at least rear anti lock brakes. I have thought of removing the anti lock system on my 98 Dak. I beleive you could run the front of the master straight to the front brakes and run the rear of the master to the rear but you will probably need a proportioning valve that is adjustable to keep from locking up the rears to early.Anyone try this or thoughts on it?

Message: I don't like ABS, so here is my plan. I have rear disc brakes so the spring in the proportioning valve was removed. I have just rear abs. By disabling the abs by removing fuse the rears lock just prior to the front. I am going to remove the abs block and in its place put a adjustable proportioning valve. Now I can manualy adjust the bias front to rear to achieve 4 wheel lock up at the same time. When hauling a heavy load I can adjust more rear into it. I prefer to modulate the lock up with my foot rather than a computer doing it for me. The truck is a 98 CC 5.2 5 spd with a 2/3 drop. You guys who have 4x4s and then raised your veh put probably close to 90% of the breaking to the front this is why your abs comes in so early. When you lower a truck you place more braking to the rear even more if the rear is lowered more than the front.
By doing this it will give me the most from the rear discs I can get and give me total control as to when my wheels lock up! Any comments welcome agree or not.

Message: As a driver that knows what I'm doing I HATE ABS!!!
That said, and as much as I'd love to remove that crap from my truck (it didn't help when it got wrinkled last month), will the truck pass inspection if you remove this hardware?
Will the insurance still pay if you're in an accident after modifying this? (whether or not this would have affected the outcome of the accident).
And, after switching to rear-disc, what are you using for a parking brake?

Message: The emergency brake works with the new calipers. They came off the rear of a cadillac seville so the calipers have a mechanical arm for this.
As far as insurance goes they wouldn't have a clue besides I have already modified my brakes so I'm not conerned about this just as I wasn't worried about a warranty when I changed ti discs at 20,000 miles.
As for a inspection I have never had anyone look under my hood, I live in florida.
