Subject: MAJOR Headlight problem
IP: Logged

Message:
Have a big problem with my '98 Dak. Happened out of the blue, I shut the truck off and the headlights stayed on (I had already shut the lights off before turning the truck off). The highbeam indicator was also on (not as bright though as if you had the highbeams on), even when the highbeams are off (they still work).

Along with this, the fog lights no longer work under any circumstances.

Has anybody had this problem? I've already disconnected the battery, but to no avail, I reconnected it a bit later and the headlights came on instantly. I've checked internal and fog lamp fuses and relays, everything seems to be fine. Otherwise, the truck runs perfectly.

Is there a chance the computer took a sh*t fit? Or perhaps a switch got busted somewhere...

Thanks!

Cheers,
Ben B

May be a short in the steering column or hi-lo switch on the column. The lights can work with the ignition off. That kinda leaves out the computer. Or could be the headlight switch.Did you check the wires going to the fog lights?May be shorted out.

Probably the headlight switch DC had a lot of problems with the switch in 98/99 model years.

I've disconnected the fog light switch, and checked what wiring I could get to, still no luck. Perhaps I should look around for a headlight switch...

Well looks like it probably was the switch, thanks for the help.

That is no longer the only problem anymore, somebody was nice enough to break into er last night and busted everything up, took a decent amount of stuff and smashed the dash, lock cylinder and windows. They even took my (out of province) license plates, which leaves me stranded 4000km from home with no vehicle. yay.
