Message: I looked it up on Google.com, and found a site that sells them and found a faq page that was interesting, you might want to check this out
Q. Are "Active Radar jammers" legal?
A. Active Radar Jammers are illegal to use in the USA therefore Phantom RCD™ users are responsible for the Phantom RCD™ operation.
is this the same as the phantom that you plan on getting?

Message: Unless they are used in the same fashion as "Radar Detectors" where they need to be in the line of sight... you could just hide it!
I would have to think that the "jammers" would have to put out some sort of field around the entire vehical to jam signals coming from every direction, In that case, hide the unit under a seat or something.
Does anyone know exactly what or how these Jammers work?

I dont know how Passive jamming would work. Any jamming I know of works like military radar jamming, which I only have basic knowledge of. You need to actively send out a radar return signal which the cops can detect, and then they'll come get you. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was an automatic arrest at that point.
I don't know if many police departments have Radar detector-detectors or can detect active jamming, but you can bet that in Interstates or Turnpikes they'll have the latest of everything. I got zapped 2 years ago in Virginia by a cop with a laser which naturally bummed me right out!

Message: Back in the early 1980's, there was an outfit here in NJ that was marketing a "RADAR jammer kit". It was their way to get around the legal issues of such a unit.
Anyway, what it did was to transmit an X-band signel that corresponeded to the doppler value of "55 mph".
It worked best when there was a little traffic on the road.
It's major drawback, was that it would beacon it's 55 mph signel further then the police RADAR of the day could possibly get a reading.
In other words, picture a cop sitting on the side of an empty road, waiting for a speeder. All of a sudden, he'ed get a reading of "55", with no target in sight! Then, along comes the jammer equipped vehicle. When said vehicle would pass the lawman, the reading would disappear.
It didn't take too much brainpower on the part of said cop to figure out that he'ed been jammed, nor took much effort to figure out that said vehicle was equipped with a jammer.

Message: yes I know for certain that police in Conn. have VG2 detectors which tell the police you have a detector. Most of todays detectors shut themselves off for a short period of time when they pick up a VG2 signal from the police looking for your detctor. I know cause I got a ticket a few years ago for having a radar detector plugged in and not even on the dash. The police detected the signal from it and came after me and let the speeders go by. Hell...in Conn. I got a ticket for "osilating your headlights" for letting people in the other direction know the police were around the next bend. A car was hidden on the side of the road looking for an idiot (like me) to flip the high beams.

Message: Custman, I would have argued that ticket, on the grounds that they cannot prove your intent to "aid & abet others in breaking the law".
For all they know, you may have been attempting to 'awaken' an inattentive motorist in front of you, or mearly testing your headlights.

Message: Radar detectors have been legal in CT for about 10 years.
All good radar detectors (like the Valentine) cannot be picked up by a VG2.
