Subject: won't idle - need battery

went out this morning truck cranks real slow, won't start. Noticed last couple times, it sounded different in starting. Put a VOM meter on battery and got 9 volts. Put a charger on battery and got it up to 12+ volts. Tried starting it again. Cranked slow but started, won't idle, will run at 1500-2000 RPM but no idle. So it's not a fuel problem.
Remember you guys saying a bad battery can cause all kinds of symtoms and problems.
So went to Costco and got a $40 battery ( three year full replacement and 100 month warranty)
Put new battery in and it started and ran great. Idled at 650 RPM. no problem.
Some notes - I have a 99 Dak, the original battery had no name on it, how cheap. Had to pop off the tie down and toss the worthless heat cover for the old battery. When in doubt replace the battery. Thanks for all the informative posts.

Same thing happened to my 97 V8 CC. The truck would not idle with a weak battery. The truck would run if I kept the revs above 1000. A new battery solved the problem. After searching for a replacement battery that would fit under the plastic cover I gave up and tossed it (cover not the battery). That was three years ago and I haven't had any problems.
