Subject: Custom Wheels on my Dakota... IP: Logged
Message: Hey folks...I'm new to the site and I like what I see!
I have a 2000 Dakota, Red, 4WD, SLT. I bought her new and have gradually added accessories. I added chrome Westin stepbars, a chrome Westin push bar and headlight guard combo, A.R.E. fiberglass tonneau cover, Street Scenes chrome grille, tinted the windows, and put an Alpine in the dash. Now I'm getting ready to do the custom wheel and tire addition.
Stock is 15" alloys with 31X10.50R15 Goodyear Wrangler RTS rubber. I want a bigger chrome wheel, but don't want to have to downsize to less aggressive rubber, because I take my Dakota off the road regularly. My truck is stock height...no modifications there.
I'm considering a 17x8" chrome wheel with P265/70R17 rubber. I can still get an aggressive all-terrain tire in that size, while being able to sport some good-looking chrome. The 265/70 is just a hair taller than the 31" stock tire, but it shouldn't be enough to have any kind of clearance problems. Have any of you tried this setup on your Dakota? If so, I'd love to hear what you think.
Thanks!
