Any person dumb enough to buy an Avalanche is to stupid to do an apple to apple comparison. In all seriousness about 70% of the people on this site still wat to compare apples to oranges. I guess the still have not figured out that currently we are the proud owners of the only mid-sized truck sense(sp) Toyota quit makeing the T-100. It is fine if you want compare quality, fit , finish..... But if you want to compare performance in any measureable field the very first criteria is EPA class and rateing. The key to understanding all of this is to work back and figure out what prompted this comparison. Most people that do this either feel insecure about them selfs or their purchase and are trying to stroke their ego to create a false sense of achievment or self esteem. They are trying to use their trucks competence or virility as a substitute for their own. If I have time I will discuss the other reason later. People that are self actualized do not carry on in this way.My truck is transportation their are things I like about it and things I do not like. It's value to me is based on need and utility. If it was the slowest truck on the planet my feeling would not be hurt. The thing that kills me is that most owners are the most biased unhonest group to ask about their cars or trucks. Most people want to belive only the good things about their trucks and will find way to rationalize(sp) any short comeing about their vechile away. I am always honest with my self. It is one thing to lie to others it is another to lie to yourself. That is a form of brainwashing. I take alot of flames because I am unbiased and tell it straight. Next time you read these apple to orange rantings try to figure out what the true root of the post was. What people do not say is often as important as what they do say.

People do that all the time. My truck looks big and so people are always comparing it to a silverado or a f-150. I'm like um, dude, it's not a fullsize truck. Why don't you compare me to an s-10 or a ranger? Whats even worse is when we talk about hooking bumper to bumper they eventually get to well I know a guy with a ford f-350 or a dump truck or something rediculous.

Hey everyone i joined thier little club there and left them a message and here is what i wrote on the topic..

Now this struck me as kind of.. well lets say stupid.. Comparing a Chevy Avalanche to a dodge dakota is very very dumb.. First off the chevy is a full size truck as where the dakota is a mid size truck.. Shouldnt be compared together anyways.. Should be the avalanche vs ram. and a couple things i would like to point out as well..
#1..V-8 power comes standard on all avalanches.. Cause wait.. Oh its a full size truck.. oh darn..
#2..Automatic transmission,, Who wants an automatic transmission.. Honestly..?? Not me.
#3..Security alarm.. why would the avalanches have one anyways.. no one would wanna break into those ugly things.
#4.. Power seat no power seat.. who cares.. are you that dam lazy you cant move your seat yourself??
#5..Anti Lock brakes are the worst thing ever invented.. They dont stop you any better then non anti lock brakes.. Oh wait unless your a MORON who dont know how to use them.
#6..Disc/Drum Brakes.. What year is being compared here.. Dakotas come standard with disc/disc brakes.. Hellooo are you living in the past or what..
#7..Illuminated vanity mirrors.. What driver needs one.. If they are a good driver they wouldnt be looking in the mirror anyways and paying attention on the dam road
#8..i can cut a little slack on the heated side veiw mirros.. but still cry because its 20 bucks as an option.. oh my arent we hard up for money..??
#9..Pretty much all dakotas come with a slider window in the back so there is no need for a heated rear window.. Catch my drift??
#10..Automatic headlamps.. *safty procaution* are you people stupid you need the truck to turn your headlights on for you .. can you not see it is dark out.. you kinda need them to see..
#11..Daytime running lamps.. what do you care not like you can see them anyways.
#12..Air bags on both sides.. yeap pretty sure they come standard with them
#13..cargo box lighting.. BORING.. who actually uses it.??anyone.. thats what i thought.
#14..So you want a water tight cargo lid to come standard.. so you wanna be like everyone else.. ok thats fine with me.. but being different and being able to choose wich one goes on your truck is more to my liking..
#15..Lockable tail gate.. seems kind of a pain to me.. but if that tickles your fancy..
#16..Engine hours meter.. Oh please i really really wanna know how many hours my engine has been running.. can you not tell enough by how many k's or miles you have on it.. something else thats just there for no reason.
#17..Converting your cab to carry stuff.. Sure it could be handy.. but do you actually use it??
#18..Lockable Saddle Bag.. Hello are you on a freaking horse or what.. this is a truck were talking about here..
#19..More 12 volt outlets.. More of a hazard in my thinking..
#20..leather wrapped steering wheel.. oo ooo ooo let me hop right on that one to make it look that much uglier..
#21..no skid bed mat.. wow there is 5 bucks on the price of the truck..
#22.Pre-treated bed.. what is it made of wood or something.. is it going to rot??
#23..Comes with a 3.9l v6 because it dont need a big fat engine to make it move..
#24..115 less horsepower.. Because its a v6 idiot.
#25..Torque.. See above answer..
#26..oh no you got us on ground clearance.. Oh shucks.. better put a lift kit on it..

sandman, do not try to explain utility based decisions to people. We base all our decisions on it whether we know we're doing it or not. Everyone chooses a vehicle because it suits them more, as in, they bought it because the utility of owning an Avalanche was higher than a Dakota. In the many attemps to explain this to people, it fails every time.
BTW, I find it kind of funny how their web design reflects their taste in vehicles. Coincidence, I THINK NOT!

I wheeled with a few Avalanch guys and they were more worried about scratching there paint and getting to dirty than wheelin.
Plus those trucks look terrible but I guess Dakota's look terrible to them.

WTF is with this thing. All of them are excellent reviews with and reccomended, with the excpetion of a few inbreds who didn't fill out the whole form.
What a crock a sh1t. Honestly here, who want to know all that sh1t. Really, what you want is to find complaints. That is what you should be looking for, I didn't give a rat's ass what reviews said was spectacular about the Dakota, I already know all that stuff from the damn catlog and test drive. What I need to know is the small simple things that you only find through daily use over a span of a couple years+. The pet peeves, the major overhauls. The people who have been driving them for years.
I give the Chevy Avalanche site a big thumbs down for being sh1tty and as inflated as most of those owner's ego.

Have to wonder about all that Avalanche power? Left one about 6 cars behind me at the stoplight the other day. Personally If someone gave me one I'd sell it. I've had a few Chevy's in the past. I stopped buying them because they are for the most part junk and that's why I now drive a Dodge. I also hate lights that I can't turn off. It's funny that a company that supports and markets SUVs to the most deadly group, the soccer mom, would talk so much about safety. I can't recall a QC owner ever trying to take me out on the road. Just my $.02.

I did a head's up compare between an avalanche and a Ram, you know what the epa classifies the avalanche as an SUV hahahahahahahahahaha. I did it bewteen the 2500's Ram has more hp but less torque by 45 but Ram has 5.7 and the chevy an 8.1, how sad is that
