I finally found a Tonneau cover that I really like. It is made by Checker Products. It's called the CheckMate FX. It is a fiberglass flush mount that includes two gas shocks, weather seal and hidden latches. They only come in a gloss white or black finish. Both are very paintable. The total weight for GenIII daks is 75 pounds. There are also a ton of add ons like quick release hinges, carpeted underside, and exterior locks for the guys with shaved handles. Of course these are for an additional price. They retail for $329 and he will give us $30 off for $299. Shipping is approx. $75 and the quick release hinges are an additional $17.50. It takes about 10 days to get one. Check out their web site:
http://www.checkerpro.com/main.html
or call them at 800-944-9319
If you want one just call them and tell them you are from dodgedakotas.com and be sure to talk to Chris and tell him the price we were quoted.

P.S. these covers are the same cover as the one they used on the RT on Trucks the TV show.

I don't think there is a time limit. He didn't say we needed to buy them all at once. I think he was just happy about the advertising from this. I guess when you decide you want one just give Chris a call. I wouldn't wait to long though.

Sweet cover. it looks to be a decent one. those that buy one, please post your comments.

I have an extang soft tonno currently. I do a lot of hauling and need to take the cover on and off a few times.

I'd like to know how heavy the checkmate tonnos are and how much of a P.I.T.A. it is to remove one. From what I've heard, taking one of those fiberglass tops on and off requires a buddy.

You can forget about security in a truck bed too. I've seen too many truck beds/covers mutilated with a pry bar. Theives don't care about messin' your paint. I was curious to know how tough these are against the infamous pry bar. (not that I want you to try to break into your top... but just examine the seals) :)

I may buy one too if the cover is light enough for one person to take it off easily.

Everything including hinges and shocks weighs 70-75 lbs. The sell quick release hinges for an extra $17.50. I guess removing it depends on how strong you are and the technique you use. As far as thieves go, unless you have a tailgate lock, all they have to do is open the tailgate. If you take it off a lot you might want to stick with the soft cover. Even this cover is pretty light for a fiberglass cover, I'm sure it is still a P.I.T.A. to take off yourself. Not to mention you have to store it when its not on your truck.
