Message: if the tires on the front are not ABSOLUTELY identical to the tires on the rear you can very easily have the very problem you are experiencing. The problem is that different tires have different traction in dry, wet ice, snow and dry conditions, and unless you have ther very same tires on both front and rear, you will have excactly the problem you describe or just the opposite with the rears locking, or none at all. It just depends on the tiresand conditions. The scenario you have is very normal for mixing snows on the rear and non snows on thefront. In fact www.tirerack.com recommends that they be all snows or all street or performance or whatever on all 4 corners. If it were my truck I would get a set of steel rims and a set of snows for the front and rear. that way at least I could stop.
