Message: Yes, I am a cop, but that is not why I am posting... I just want to say to the people who complain about people driving too fast on their streets(even if it is below the speed limit), which usually is part of the statement..."SLOW DOWN, there are kids playing in this street." My answer is, there should not be kids in the street, and it is your job to keep them out of it! By no means am I condoning speeding, but i get tired of parents who believe that they can let their kids run free, and people other than themselves should drive 1/2 the speed limit just to make sure they can sit inside and their kids will be safe playing without supervision.

Hey DakotaCop, I know a guy a block away who always yells at me for going 20-25 down his wide busy ass street. So I tried 15 and he saw me coming and started on his bicyle to get in front of me as I was passing by and he cusses and flips me off. Damn that old man is funny.
When I was younger I used to throw a basketball in the street when a car was speeding down my street.
There is an area a couple blocks away where there are a bunch of super little kids that run around in the street. A few of them actually play this game where they run across before the car passed them. Never seen a parent in that area..
My dad finally got fed up with it and went out there in uniform and had a talk to their parents. They moved about a month after that. Prolly not cause of him, but still funny to consider it.

Message: xplikt,
Wow, I thought you were talking about me in my neighborhood, until you said about the bike thing.
I live in a neighborhood, on a kinda thru street, and the spd limit is 25mph. Well, virtually no-one can seem to do this, thru their own neighborhood. Really pisses me off. 30 in a 25, is 20% over the speed limit. 30is not so bad, it's the ones going 40+ all day long!
My wife has gotton so mad at me confronting people, that I've really backed off lately, for the wifes sake.

Message: Dakcop I am not worried about my kids in the street, my youngest is 16 and learned all about that by watching a kid get nailed by a speeder. I am worried about the dumsticks that speed down the street, then swerve out of the way of the large dog, and end up going through my living room at 80+ mph.

Message: Well we were fed up as well, we had a resident trooper meet with us and a couple otehr neighbors last night to address the speeding issue so they will be more prone to radar. Sure enough as soon as the gun was on he tagged a guy going 68mph on my 30mph road in the rain (it should be a 40)... it got to the point anyone going under 50 was let go by.... well at least for now....
I know I speed, I will not deny it... but I do not speed in residential areas... I speed on the highway.... it jsut makes me sick to know that so many pets and people are hit all the time from people driving too fast for the conditions...

Message: modette,
I think you need to do some growing up.... there is a time and a place to drive fast... so you are also telling us that if someone is walking in the road (no sidewalks) they do not have the privelege to walk?
YOU have to maintain control of your vehicle at all times at all costs. Speed limits are set to be at least a good approximation of what a reasonable and prudent speed is on that particular street.
I know of many roads in my area that are, in my opinion, overrated as far as speed limit. Roads that are narrow, allow parking on both sides of the road, have lots of bends and hills that are 40 mph zones... this why inoccent people die... as you come around the corner doing 50 and taking the turn wide (to be sure you have an escape path on either side of the road) and someone comes at you doing the same thing you will learn. I have been there and done that.. once you end up in someone's front yard after skitting past a tree or a pole you will learn (hopefully)... There is a time and a place, and neitehr of those involve residential areas or school zones.
I hope that someone busts speeding and hits you with so many fines that you cannot afford to drive.
and for your information my dog is tied, but one day 2 other dogs came in my yard and she ran to get them so bad she actually busted the 3/16" ss cable she was tied to to chase them out of the yard. That day (the first and only time she ever got loose) she got hit by a jeep. Luckily for me and my dog the 2 other dogs ran into the road first and the jeep was almost at a stop by the time my dog was hit. She didn't even fall. I now put my faith in an invisible fence to keep her in the yard as runs and cables are obviously not strong enough.
That it.. my $.02. This is a topic I can keep going on about jsut based on my few years of experience...
flame on if you will...

Message: I recently got a speeding ticket in my 04 Dodge Dakota for doing 91 mph in a 70 mph but I already know that my stock truck shuts down the engine at 89 mph therefore I'm sure I wasn't doing 91 mph because I had my cruise set at 70 mph. How can I document that my truck won't do 91 mph to take this to court with me?

Message: Where did you learn that your speed limiter won't let your truck go past 89mph? This some goofy-ass thing DC did with the newer trucks or something? My stock 98 Dak has seen 110mph on a flat road and 115mph on a slight decline. 89mph seems kinda low to have a speed limiter set at...
