Subject: Rotten Egg Smell IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dakota Club Cab, 2WD, V6, 3.9L with 5300 miles. I just recently added a 360airintake and relocated my IAT sensor to the intake tube (about 6 - 8 inches from the airhat). I sometimes notice a rotten egg smell when I get out of the car. Is this due to the mods I've made? Is this normal? What can I do to fix this?
Any help and ideas?
Thanks,
Phil

Message: Usually a rotten egg/ sulphur smell is a bad catalytic converter. Take it to the dealer and have it replaced. First, put the IAT sensor back in the stock location and see if it goes away. I have heard of some people having this problem when they relocate the IAT.

Message: Folks with 2002 thunderbirds were having the same odor after WOT or any time you really heat up the cat. Ford claimed it would go away after awhile.
Most people reported it went away after 2 to 5 thousand miles.
