Subject: My Interior Chimes ... sometimes.
IP: Logged

Message:
Sometimes when I crank my truck, I hear a single chime, sometimes a double chime, and sometimes no chime at all. I have looked through my owners manual and asked the dealer, but all I get are blank stares. The chime is similar to the "fasten seat belts" chime when the truck is first cranked, but (honestly) this is not it. I nearly always get a chime or two if the truck does not crank on the first spin.

Any thoughts?

Are all circumstances the same? ie..door ajar, low on gas, seat belt reminder, etc. I don't know what all the instances for receiving a chime normally but these are just a few.

Doors are closed, my seat belt is on, full tank of gas (or at least it isn't low).

The chime comes within 2 seconds of the engine cranking. If I turn the engine and it does NOT crank, I do not get a chime until the engine HAS cranked.

For what it's worth, my chime came on one day and didn't stop for 6 hours, no matter what I did. Then, just as fast as it came on, it stopped. Hasn't done it since.

Joe,
The chime is just erratic. Mine does the same. Dodge intermittent wipers tend to act erractically, too. And I've never had one where the ignition switch light ever worked right.

My 95 Cavalier used to the do the same thing when it was hot outside. At work where I would park, I never left the windows open, so when I would open the vehicle and turn on the air, the chime would start to go off. After making several trips to the local Chebby dealer, we found a ground wire that was loose under the drivers seat for the seat belt. Thought this might help you here.

Mine has been doing the same thing. I have been looking in my manual also.

One chime only. Seat belts fastened, doors closed, no wipers on, 3/4 to full tank. Does not do it every time.
Does it maybe every other time I crank it.

Dealer has no idea either.

This morning it was different, it did it when I started out of the driveway and the doors locked at its usual 15 mph.

It chimed once, it usually does it at startup it seatbelts are on.

Thanks for all the input. I was worried that my truck was trying to tell me that the O2 sensor wasn't working correctly or something like that.

Nah, it's not telling you anything other than Dodge can't make a truck that works right.

Mines has done the same chime thing for years. Maybe it's is just a loose ground or switch for the drivers belt.

Ok, don't know if this helps or not (husbands' truck) Went to dealer today because chime at different times comes on and stays on. Seatbelt fastened but warning light on according to the dealer the Seatbelt harness needs to be replaced...cost $250. I'm saying there has got to be fuse for the chime he can disconnect completely from the wires that are on the driver's side, but that also disconnect lights and everything else....Tried to find manual can't find service manual from dealer $110 not gonna happen...anybody got an idea about the chime is there a fuse?

The only thing I would check that I haven't seen mentioned is that the washer fluid has a low indicator chime, if the bulb is out then you would get a chime and no light, seeming eratic.
When you start the truck make sure the fluid indicator bulb lights to eliminate this possibility.

Unlikely that all would have this issue but good practice to elimate all posible causes. good luck.

I have a bit of an opposite issue. I am getting a set of three "double chimes" every time I turn the truck off. No warning lights, and the chimes sort of like echo themselves.

So, I hear a sort of, "DING.ding.....DING.ding.....DING.ding" Get the picture?? Sort of hard typing out what you hear!
