Subject: Cam position sensor IP: Logged
Message: Any one know if a cam position sensor can be bad, but the engine still run? My truck still stumbles at initial startup and almost everything except the block is new the auto parts guy said if this sensor was bad the truck would not run.
Its a 96 V6 auto 100K miles.

Message: It can be out of synch or faulty and the engine will run but with some driveability problems. The sensor determines when each injector opens.

Message: When mine went bad , the truck would crank but not start. After letting it set for about 5 min. it would start and run just fine. It did it to me three times before the dealer fixed it. Never had any problems driving it , just starting it.
