Subject: wind noise IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a 96 dakota 4x4 with a regular cab. i notice at 55+ mph there is a horrible wind noise in what I belive is the door. I also noticed if I crack the windows a bit it goes away. I installed ventvisors to see if that would help, and it didn't. The window seems to vibrate/resonate, and there must be air getting in somewhere to cause this noise? Anyone ever hear of this, or know how to fix it?

Message: The Gen II daks are generally very noisy when it comes to wind. YOu maybe hearing something normal, but i'm not sure. Those of us that have older daks have fixed the problom of excessive road noise by turning up the radio. I also use dynomat.

| I have the same noise with a '97... I think IP: Logged
Message: in my case it comes from the cowl panel just below the windshield. I also have a Durango that does not have this issue and it has a very different looking cowl panel (both panels fit under the wiper arms). I have been considering trying to switch panels to see if there is any difference or even if it could be done...

Message: I had a '74 Duster that had plenty of wind noise. I stuffed foam behind the A-pillar trim and it helped quite a bit. I know it would help my '92 Dak, maybe I should give it a try and report back on the results.

Message: Check the insulation next to the hinges of the front doors. they are used to insulate the inner fender gap. Also I found out that part of the noise comes from the side mirrors(gen 2 & gen3 w/big mirrors). I removed them and drove at highway speeds and checked the difference with a Db meter. It made a noticeable difference. Just my .02 !

Message: Also if you have a bug deflector it will be much louder as they tend to deflect air right onto the mirrior/A pillar area of the gen II daks.
