Subject: Hidden fuses / those sneaky bastards IP: Logged
Message: I was installing my scanner when I accidentally shorted out the leads to my power outlet (which is why you should always disconnect the battery before playing with the electricals...oh well). I heard a pop from the fuse box and figured no biggie, I'd just replace the fuse later. After cleaning up, I started hunting for the fuse. But they were all good. So I checked the power outlet. No good. So I spent about a half hour poking around, testing things, since I don't have a service manual, and wondering what the dealer was going to charge for this little mishap, when I noticed 2 fuses, a 10 amp and a 20 amp, on the BACKSIDE of the fuse box, where you'd never know they were there, and no mention of them anywhere on the fuse diagram or the owner's manual. The 20 amp was blown. I replaced it. Back in business.
So if you ever have trouble with some electrical component not working and all fuses are good, be sure to check these 2 extra fuses. Just remove the panel below the steering column, put your head down in the footwell, and look up. I don't know what the 10 amp does. I figured I'd save that for some other time I feel like a mystery. And if a Chrysler engineer is reading, a defy you to tell me a good reason for hiding 2 undocumented fuses.
