Subject: Wax after Paint? IP: Logged
Message: I had to have the hood of my Jeep repainted to get rid of some factory fisheye. I have a 2000 mile road trip coming up next weekend. How soon can I wax the hood. The body shop said 30 days, my local paint buddy said next day. Keep in mind I live in Ct and it is DAMN cold out right now (no garage). I just want to wax enough of it to put on my bug-guard...
Thanks Guys!
Chris

Message: I just had my hood painted and the body man told me not to wax it until the water quit beading on the new paint. It said it takes awhile for the paint to cure, and waxing it will not let it cure properly.

Message: Chris, Troy is right about the wax. Paint manufacterers recomend that you wait about 90 days to let the paint cure. The reason that you do not want to use wax is that it seals the surface of the paint not allowing the remaining solvents to escape which may cause premature die-back or hazing. Any good polish that does not contain wax is suitable for use such as Meguiars #2 polish. I painted my truck about 2 months ago and am still using the show car glaze #7. The #2 polish should give you adequate protection for your needs.

Message: After I got a defect on the side of the bed repainted I was told to wait 90 days beofre waxing or even using a pressure washer to clean. This came from a VERY reputable body shop. They have a lifetime warranty on ALL of their work. I don't think they would steer me wrong with the waxing advise.
BTW: the re-paint was done in the winter last year so I was without wax in the cold and snow... I haven't had any problems with it.

Message: hey forexfour, maybe your buddy who owns the paint shop told you that for a reason...if someone waxes it right afterwards, which makes the paint not last as long, then they will have to get their truck painted again someday and your buddy will have more business and money!! Its a good idea on his part, haha! I donno, i had my truck repainted and they told me to wait 90 days as well.

Message: Oh yeah and I almost forgot, when my truck was damaged 2 months after I got it. My whole front end was re-painted. When I picked up the truck when it was done they had done the blending terrible. Lots of swirl marks so I had them fix it. All they did was use some 3M miricle product they buffed on. It still looked like crap so I immediatley to it home stripped it of all wax and re-wax it. That was over 2 years ago and when I discovered Zaino.
They painted the Front hood and right fender.
You all say you were told not to but did any of you try it?
MYTH!!!
By the way My golf buddy does only Big Dollar jobs and I have never had anyone complain yet!

Message: Depends if the part or car/truck went through accelerated drying or not. If the drying process was accelerated then you should be able to wax, if not then wait it out.
Z-Tube, R/T Rims, SSB Rear Disc Conversion, Alpine Head-Unit, Infinity Kappa Speakers, SilverStar Headlights, HO Cams & Intake installed.
Got H.O. ?
