Subject: SYMPTOMS: Worn/Wearing Ball Joints IP: Logged
Message: Just wanted to know what some of the symptoms are oh Worn or Wearing Ball joints. I have noticed a little squeak. Not sure if its from the Stearing wheel b/c of the cold weather, or if its my ball joints. I dont notice any squeaking when i go over bumps, just when i turn the wheel to the right.

Message: I had ball joints replaced on my '99 4x4 under warranty. Tires were wearing irradically, truck couldn't be alligned. A good test, sometimes easier with two people: jack up front end, lift up and try to rock wheel back and forth. Have partner look at ball joints from back side. Any movement, they need replacing. A regular greasing with a grease gun can extend their life.

Message: I'm not sure if this is a standard procedure, but this is what I did to isolate my uppers.
Leave truck on ground, and try to push the tire,(from the upper part right above rim), if there is play meaning the top of the wheel/tire move when you push, the uppers are shot. Another symptom to look for is torn or cracked boots. Like previously posted here many times, go with the MOOGS, I had to order them for a '99. Replacment very easy to do, you just have to find the best way for yourself to remove existing rivets. I reccomend, to replace both upper and lowers at the same time. This makes removal easier, as everything is out of your way. the uppers come right out(for '01) after you remove rivets(not pressed in). The lowers are pressed in, and I used a pickle fork(ball joint separator $10.) to loosen from being pressed on. Hope this helps, oh and btw, the MOGS do have a grease fitting.
