Subject: My cure for the wet floor problem
IP: Logged

Message:
I went out to my '98 Dakota yesterday to make sure it was ready for winter (I haven't had a day off from work since I bought it last Tuesday) and I discovered the dreaded "wet passengers-side floor" syndrome.

While I did remember seeing a little bit of evap. drain water on the ground the day I bought it after my test drive, I discovered yesterday that the rubber drain tube was quite melted on the end and the outlet opening was only about a quarter the size it should be.

Well, After reading several posts about how people removed the hose and stuck a barbed 1/2" 90 degree elbow in the drain hole, I went to the hardware store and bought a elbow and a length of 1/2" ID heater hose.

Working my hand into that area of the firewall was very difficult, but I was able to remove the factory drain hose by releasing the spring clamp built into the hose.

Well to make a long story short (or is this a short story made long :) ) I couldn't get that barbed 90 degree fitting into the drain hole because of the tight confines- I just couldn't get the leverage to push it in hard enough.

What I ended up doing was taking the factory drain hose, cut off the melted end, and forced a section of the 1/2" heater hose up into the remaining drain hose. I left the hose a little longer than stock (about 8") and I put a zip tie around the hoses to make sure that the lengthened portion didn't slide out. I then reattached the drain hose to the firewall and angled the hose so that it runs closer to the tranny, away from the exhaust.

Sorry for the long-wined story but I wanted to add my fix to the list for this common problem.

John
