Subject: Illuminated Cupholders IP: Logged
Message: I have a 02 Sxt with the dark slate interior and bucket seats, I also do a lot of nightime driving and find it difficult to find the cup holder in the dark when trying to replace a coffee mug, I need to illuminate it some how, but wonder if anyone has done this yet or has any suggestions. There used to be a gadget you could plug into the cigarette lighter that had a light with a cover that rotated and the light could be directed wherever you wanted, but can't seem to find any. I know pre 01 Durangos had a built in light in the lower part of the dash, not sure if it was available on Dakotas, but tried getting a part # with no luck
I need help, tired of spilling coffee in my new truck.
Thanks

Message: You could put a ring of glow in the dark paint in the cupholder, or put an LED in a clear piece of plexiglass, add a resistor, and you have a glowing cup holder.

Message: My 01 has a small light under dash to illuminte the cup holders, i like it. My wifes 02 does not, so i added a 6" neon tube under dash above cup holders that lights it up nicely at night.

Neon sounds like a good option, could you be a little more specific, I am not familiar with neons, where purchased, how they wire, etc.
Thanks

Message: You can buy the small neon "sticks" at most auto stores in different lengths and colors. Blue closely matches the dash lighting and looks good. Some have built-in transformers, the less bulky ones like I bought has the transformer seperate. I just tucked the transformer up under the dash and cut-off the cigarette lighter plug end to hard wire, ground to chassis and power to switched(key in on position) power in fuse box.

Message: If you're looking for neon like lights, look into stuff for computer case modding. There's all kinds on 12V kits in a variety of forms.
