Message: Have a 2000 Dakota Sport 4x4 radio jumps stations on its own will or just stays on one station and none of the push buttons or knobs work at all. This will go on for days then it will work great for a day or so then start over the dealer said all they could to is remove it and send it in for repair which would take weeks.
I don't have the static problem. Has anyone had this yet another Bizarre Dakota radio problem?
Thanks!

Message: I have a 1988 Dak, for the most part my radio works great. The only problem I have is sometimes the radio just turns itself on. I will be driving down the road and all of a sudden it turns on. Anyone had this problem?

Message: ATTENTION: SPT
This is the EXACT problem I had with my 99 Dakota. From what I can figure, there is some kind of a short or capacitor problem.....dunno for sure as I am not an electircal wizz. The solution......turf the factory unit and go for an aftermarket job. Thats what I did and I have not had the problem since. You are going to have to bone yard the factory unit or sell it to some fella who can do touchy electrical stuff. My advice on this one............look for an aftermarket unit that fits your needs, Doesn't have to be pricey, but you know the deal when it comes to auto sound systems. Good Luck. Hope this helps ya a bit.

Message: Thanks for the advice sluggo. The system that is in the truck is the original one so its 16 years old. I have been thinking recently its time to upgrade to a new system and speakers, so I guess I will start looking around.

Message: orig problem, when I changed from factory radio to a jvc cd player I experienced all lights,(ie dash and running lights)would go out, blow the fuse. could not fix the problem with wiring harness in truck.
solution--- (for my truck) disconnected con-power
power and ground from radio and ran strait lead to battery for hot lead and memory, ground to truck body. no more blown fuses and radio works great.
understanding--in truck factory wires are around a 20-22 gage, radio wires are 16-18 gage, truck wiring harness cannot handle the output of the radio. therefor fuses are blown and stuff dont work. this may work for someone that is having the same problem with there dakota.

Message: My 99 Dakota 4x4 ClubCab Pioneer radio would not power on sometimes, or would cut in and out. I sent it off for repair and Pioneer said no prob found.
I then realized one day if the Emergency brake was in a certain position, just barely depressed the radio cut off. Somehow the brake switch on the E brake pedal is wired into the radio circuit ground. My pioneer is connected to the factory harness with one of those adapters.

Message: I had some of the same problems. My radio would work sometimes and then it would start changing channels on its own. But, it would always go back to my preset on number #3. My cd player also wouldn't work. Everytime I put it a CD it would reset the whole radio system.
So I just learned that when it started changing channels on its own again, I would just put in a cd and it would reset the system and start working again.
