 Subject: Seat back recline problem

Both of my seat back recline mechanisms are messed up. When you recline the seatback and let go of the lever, it won't lock in most of the time; just keeps reclining with a "burrrrrrrrp" sound. Anybody know how to fix this? It's a 97 CC Dakota. Thanks.

Yea i have the same problem with my 98 CC...just in the drivers seat....it locks when its up really striaht or down a ways...but in the middle it slides when i accerate hard or push back on the seat

I have a 2001 R/T that just starting doing something like that. I can recline down but it won't come back up. What gives

I have a 98 rc, and mine does the same. Luckily there is a sub box behind my seats and it a reg cab so i dont have to worry much. but if you do find out why its doing this on the daks, that would be good!

FYI-- I have a set of '99 RT seats, buckets, dark-- 100% perfect shape (been wrapped and in storage since Nov 99). $300 + shipping.

new to this forum, have an 04 CC dakota, had similar
problems with only the drivers seat (it has a different
reclining mechanism than the passenger seat for whatever
reason, every though they are both manual setups)... so i
took off the plastic black handle, made sure the roll joint
were greased and was lined up at the back of the seat.. then
had to use vice grips in order to replace the handle,
connecting further up the rod in order to get any
movement....guess the vice will stay there
if anyone knows a more feasible fix let me know plz

Hi Karl, i have an 04 CC with the exact same problem, i was
using vice grips as well but the plastic rod snapped due to
pressure over time... did you ever find a fix?

I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota DOUBLE CAB. power
SEATS. drovers SEAT i PUSHED BACK SLIGHTLY WITH MY
BACK WHEN ADJUSTING SEAT. heard A "THUNK" AND
LEFT SIDE Of SEAT BACK SLIPPED BACK A COUPLE
INCHES leaving the seat back slanted slightly to
the left. Any suggestions?
