Hey guys, with X-mas coming up in a couple of months I was starting to think of gift ideas that I could give to people. I want to know what you guys use to dry your trucks after washing them. I have heard that 100% cotton towels (the expensive kind) are the best. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

A good leather Shamus Cloth, I've used them for years. They smooth the wax back down and leave no lint like a Cloth Towel. They also pull out the water spots from previous rains and rinses.

I've had great luck with The Absorber. It's about $7 at Wally World. I have two of them that I've had for about a year now and they are still in brand new condition after many washings.

The best thing I have found is also the absorber. Had mine for about a year too and just got a new one, I think it's great.

I still havn't tried the water blade.

BTW, here's a good trick someone showed me a while back.

Take the sprayer off the hose and turn it on so it's just coming out in a thick stream. Then just hold it over the car so it comes right down onto the body and it will take off all the water left from the spray in a sheet. Funny how putting more water onto the car actually removes what was there before. Makes drying somewhat easier, specially for the roof.

I use the MALCO CW-37 car wash formula for wet washes, water blade the flat spots after washing and then take care of any other water droplets with a chamois cloth.

For waterless washes I use the AMSOIL Miracle Wash and good, soft 100% cotton towels.

No matter how much I tell people, no one ever believes me you can use #000 (tripple aught) steel wool and ammonia on your windows (outside) without a problem. Hard to beat it though.

*note, be sure it is new and not rusted. Rusted metal is harder.

I've heard that with products like RainX that for some it has streaked when they actually use their wipers and that when it begins to wear a way that it will also streak. This would be kinda scary considering that they say it's like having oil on the windshield.

I am a die hard user of Rain X. I put it on yesterday and drove through the rain and only had to use my wipers a couple of times, I love the stuff. Never had a problem with streaking, although I have heard some say that. I think if you don't wipe the excess off good enough when applying it that can be a problem. I am a huge fan of the stuff tho.

I tried Rain-X once or twice on my old truck and car and it was great....UNTIL..it started to wear off. The it was a pain in the a$$. Streaks.. wiper blades drag.. Last winter I decided to give Rain-X another try. This time instead of using plain Rain-X i bought the Rain-X De-Icer windshield washer fluid. I'm sold on the stuff. I use nothing else but that year round. Everytime you use the washer fluid it put a fresh coat of Rain-X on the windshield. Cost maybe just a bit more then premimum washer fluid but I think its worth itbut then again that's just my $.02.

Genuine Deer Skin Chamios. I use 2. One large to drag across to get the large water spots. Then I come back over it with the second one to finish. I also wash in sections in full sun mostly, from top to bottom. Dragging first helps tremendously.

I also use the Absorber to dry. For the windows , believe it or not , I use old newspaper and Windex. Nothing with Ammonia on the inside rear window , because of the tint. I have heard that it will turn the tint purple if it has Ammonia in it.

Ammonia is very hard on tint.

Newspaper does work nice though. It acts as a polish. A bit tough to get water spots with it, but on a clean spotless window it really makes it shine! Good thing you brought that up.

For the Glass, Used rain-X for years, the original yellow plastic bottle, tried the new versions and none work as good as the original.

Tried the Rain-X washer fluid, and don't like it, won't use it again. Same results on all 3 vehicles, works great on the windshield but leaves discolorations/streaks on the hood where it spill/drops out of the washer jets...

Went back to tha manual method, the old yellow bottle and elbow grease.. Works great in So. Florida and we get our share of rain.
When washing the glass dries right up with a 100% Cotton Towel, but not all 100% cotton towels are for real. The cotton is 100% cotton but the towel is not. The good ones can be found a "Bed Bath and Beyond" not Wally world..

When buying 100% cotton towels make sure you buy the ones that say made in the USA. They are 100% cotton others not made in the USA are not even though they say they are.

Learned that from the zainobros.com site.
