Message: I am looking to buy a new Dakota but was wondering why one can not get a Club Cab 4x4 with the 5.9L engine. Anyone know why this is? I own a 20ft boat with a 225 merc on it and its big and heavy and I would like the extra torque of the larger displacement when pulling it. Anyone know why they dont offer it? I do not like the way the Quad Cab looks.

Message: Did check and see if you can special order it with the 5.9?Also if you think the quad cab is ugly take a look at the ford sport trac that i think is the uglyiest poor example of a truck id ever seen!besides the looks of the quad cab are far superior to any other make out there!saw one with a cap last week and it looked awesome!someone in here can give you the towing spec's most of these guys know what the DAKOTA is capable of pulling!Steve

Message: durtydog-
sorry...didnt mean to sound like i didnt like the quad cab...what i should have said was that i liked the looks of the club cab better...yea, i have a friend you bought a exploder sport-trac...UGLY! and only a V-6 offering. i havent checked into special ordering yet...i was just wondering if anyone had tried already...its quite a trek for me into the nearest dodge dealer like 100 miles and i didnt want to waste my time going just to be told no. i couldnt think of anyreason other than weight why they wouldnt put a 5.9L in a cc for me...thanks for the input

Message: sorry, but you cant special order the 5.9 in a 4x4. When i ordered mine, I wanted the 5.9 with the 5 speed. The dealer told me the only way to get the 5.9, is to buy the R/T (which comes only with an automatic and 4x2) so I got the 5.2, 5 speed. I think its dumb that you can't get the 5.9 without the R/T package.
You can get the 5.2, with 3.92 gears and put on a intake, catback and throtle body and you will have more horsepower and torque than the 5.9. (just a suggestion)

Message: Not entirely true, kota. You can order the 5.9L in the quad cab 4x4. I'm living proof. You cannot order the 5.9L with the club cab though ... special order or otherwise. 5.9 is only available in quad cab (2wheel or 4wheel) or the R/T. If you get the 5.9 you are stuck with the automatic tranny ... no stick option.

Message: It's not totally ideal but a Club Cab with a 4.7 and 3.92 gears might get the job done. A Ram with a 5.9 would be a better choice though.

Message: I just got a 2001 Dak c/c 4.7L auto 4x4. I also have a 20 ft boat, with Merc. I/O. I hooked onto it 2 days ago, and it seemed to pull it just fine. A little doggy on the hills, but did better than I thought it would.
A little advise, GET THE QUAD CAB! Alot more room in it. I wish I would have. I felt the same way you did, I really didnt care for them at firstm but after I got the C/C I wish I had the extra room in the cab.

Message: Yep, all you guys and gals that think, not QC, not for me. Once you've had one for a week, you'll go nuts without it. I can't say much about ay of the other QC's on the market, though the Ford one didn't look too bad, but still doesn't hold a candle to Dakotas. The back seats fold up, if need be, and you have a ton of room back there. And the bed may not be full size but it can hold its own. On top of that you can get and extender for it, then it's like a full-size bed. AND it comes with a 5.9 super hauler engine.

Message: When I bought my truck in 98 the quadcab was not available. if it were, I would have bought it. The smaller bed dosent effect me too much scence i hardly use mine as it is, and you can actually carry more than two people. I was actually thinking of trading mine in for a QC, but im almost paied off and i dont want to start all over on payments. Oh well, Ill look on the bright side. at least i'm not a taxi for all of my friends.

Message: Hello all. I have a flame red 2001 q/c with the 4.7, 5 speed & sport option. with the intake removed and a 2 chamber flowmaster, 20psi in the rear tires, my best e.t. has been 15.562 @ 86 mph. i am considering the performance chip from mopar and am currently doing a k&n tube intake install. Has anyone installed one of these computers. Was it worth the $/hp? Has anyone out there improved on their 4.7? Thanks for any reply.-Oh yeah, 3.55 open diff, but it will chirp 3rd gear and hit 117mph. Imagine what a 5.9 with a stick could do. It's the wife's truck.

Message: The extra torque of the 5.9 in a Ram will be canceled out by the increased weight. The 4.7 actually tows quite well, just go with the 3.92 rear gears if you're worried about it.
