Ok, the vehical makes this a little off topic, but with as many people here that have old cars I figure i'll ask anyway. My father has a 1970 Mercedes 280 SL roadster that has come due for a Delaware sniffer test. I was told it didn't pass by .2 but I don't know which chemical it was that was high. I have seen chemicals advertised that claim to get a car to pass but I'm not sure if these work or are just another Tornado/Z-Max like product. The local Benz dealer isn't sure if there's anything they can do. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

First things first check for anything obvious, I would check PCV valve, EGR valve and solenoid, spark plugs, air filter, cap and rotor and check engine vaccum. You can de-carbon the EGR valve and plugs, wires, cab and rotor are not that expensive if you source them on the after market. If you suspect dirty injector or carboned up heads and pistons try Amsoil PI Quick Shot or Redline Injector cleaner. One last thing use a thick synthetic like Amsoil 20W50 Synthetic or Mobil 1 15w50. The thicker synthetic will give better ring seal reduceing blow by on a worn engine by a large margine. If you do not want to use synthetic use a straight weight like Valvoline 50wt raceing oil available at Walmart. You will need to drive a tank or two of gas with the cleaners in it to help at all. Please not that even with all this it may still fail. I have seen an awful lot of cars pass emission testing by getting a tune up, cleaning the EGR valve and putting a realy thick oil in. Their is only so much that can be done to make up for worn out rings and vale guids and seals!!!
