Subject: Tires for a Durango SLT 2000 IP: Logged
Message: I recently bought a Durango 2000 SLT, manufactured Dec 1999. I am not sure of the rim width - is there an easy way to tell?? - but it currently has P235/75 R15 on it. It will need new tires soon and I keep getting different answers on what tires will fit.
The responses I have had from calling tire places has been as follows:
1) Don't change - it will affect the ride and performance
2) The Durango can only take one size bigger and that is in the width - i.e. 245's
3) Buy 255/70 R 15 as this will keep the overall diameter the same
4) 2 places told me it would accept 31x10.5 15 (they seem large to me) and one said the speedo etc. would have to be recalibrated by the dealer.
Can somebody help me with what will fit on this SUV
Thanks

Message: what gears? 3.55 or 3.92's? if it has 15's, they are either 7 or 8" wide. on the 15x7's, go with a 255/60/15 or on the 15x8's, 275/60/15. but you will have to take it to the dealer and let them recalibrate your speedo. that what will fit the best depending on what kind of tire you want. street. all terrain, agressive tread?

Message: if you look on the sticker on the cab when you open the door it will tell ya the rim size, unless someone has changed them mine says 15x7s but they are 15x8s not complaining, if it is 4wheel drive just get the 31s they really arent that big at all

Message: Thanks for the info
I checked the door and it said 15x6, so I took it to a shop and they said 15x7, then re-measured and said 15x8. I was also told that a customer had brought back 31x10s as they rubbed (don't know if it was the same year, model etc.
Another place said these were an optional size on this model.
Don't know the ratio, just that it is a 4x2 Durango 2000 SLT with upgraded rims. Are there any structural differences between the 4x4 and the 4x2 as it seems that the upgraded rims came with 31x10.5s on the 4x4, but 275/15s on the 4x2.
I will be using the tires mainly for highway driving, some mountain driving, occasional towing and occasional off-road - dirt roads etc. nothing extreme.
Thanks
