Why is it when I ride in somebody else's truck they always have the passenger airbag turned off? It's only supposed to be off when a baby seat is in the passenger seat, otherwise, leave it on.

Message: I turn mine off when I drive by myself. I do this because , i have heard that it cost anywhere from $800 to $1500 to replace an air-bag. Plus , if no one is there , why mess up the passanger side dash anymore than you have to? This may sound stupid , what with the front of the truck being messed up , but thats me!
