 Subject: Roll Cage Mandatory?

When is a roll cage mandatory at the track? Is it up to the track, or is it governed by federal/provincial/state laws?
I've heard quicker than 10sec. in the 1/4 requires a cage .. but recently I heard quicker than 12 sec. requires a cage.
Anyone know for sure?

I think it's a safety law on all tracks that any car under 12 seconds must have a roll cage. I know it's that way here in Georgia at all our tracks. I just don't know if it's mandated by the tracks as a safety precaution or if it's a law or ordinance of some type.

Usually it's governed by the NHRA rulebook. Looks like you have to break 12 for a roll bar, 10 for a cage. Convertibles require a cage after 11

roll bars are mandated by NHRA for 12.50 and faster. a full roll cage is mandated for all cars faster than 11.99. NHRA rulebook, 2002 edition. its been like that for a long time

A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.99. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs.
slow2dak - I sure hope they don't make the rule the way you say it is in the rulebook! I'd have to have a roll bar already. I went 12.40s last weekend and the tech guys didn't jump me for it.
