 Subject: 3" Body Lift Info?

I am looking at putting a 3 inch body lift on my 99 dakota, and am wondering if I have to extend the 4WD shifter or if I can get away with out extending it. Also if I have to extend it, how does the Knob on the top of the shifter come off and how do you extend the shifter(weld on a extra piece on)? The body lift kit also comes with a extension for the steering linkage, is there any trick to connecting it and does have it have to be welded or is the installation just straight forward. If any one has installed one of these lifts, any tips or information that you may have would be much appreciated!
