Message: Does anyone know if Dodge has changed the transmission gearing since 97? Both my father and I bought 1997 V6 manual trans. Dakotas. Both had 3.55 gears, and both traveled at 2000 rpms when going 60 mph. I just bought a 2003 with the same gearing, trans and engine. but this one is turning 1800 rpms at 60 mph. I have to downshift to excellerate. My old Dakota didn't have this problem. Can anyone help me?

Message: The tires are the same diameter. I wonder if the 5 speed for the V-8's might have been installed behind my V-6. I drive mostly in 4th gear now. The motor is lugging under 55mph in 5th gear.

Message: HELP!!! I have a 1997 V6, 3.9L 5-speed manual SLT and this has been well cared for. Only have 48K miles on it--stored every winter. About a week ago, I was tooling down the road, stopped at a Railroad crossing and could not get it into any gear but 5th. Limped it off the road, then it would not go into ANY gears. I am told by the dealer this morning, that something jammed in the 5th gear, which put all the other gears out of alignment. Estimate to fix--$1300!! Ouch!! They say they don't know what caused it and have never seen anything like it. Anybody else ever heard of this??

Message: Never heard that before. I replaced my tranny at 120k miles a couple years ago. Cost me $1200.
