I come from central Iowa - Downtown Des Moines, actually.
the last year and a half, theres been 2 incidents, one involving 4 kids still in high school 16 and under in a quick little integra, then another involving 2 men (ages 35 and 39)...

It seems ever since even the incident with the cobra, that street racing here in Iowa went from "the in thing on saturday night" to your going to get caught...
I remember when some friends and I used to go down and watch, and occasionally race if good competition came a long (rare) but enjoyed watching as the nearest tracks are 2 hours away and only open to us to use on Friday nights (or pay admission and watch people with actual cars built for racing).
Most of the people around here find empty business districts to race in, along with empty roads that are straight and smooth upwards of 20 minutes out of town...
Anymore though, since local PD has been busting down on it, its been left to a minumum, now when everybody gathers just to hang around and show off their cars, everyone still gets told to take a hike by PD. who knows why, i mean, no one hardly races anymore.
Our "loop" area is screwy and full of young drivers that have to play show off for those of us that dont care.
I guess now im babbling, my point is though, like the 2 older gentlemen that were racing and that accident... it isnt just us younger individuals, but we pay for it day in and day out by our insurance rates (i know, my insurance went from 70$ a month to 140$ after one accident that wasnt 100% my fault... and now their going to raise it again because they never caught a ticket i had on my record over a year and a half ago). I look at myself, and i get told daily that i have a lead foot and like in my case, my mother doesnt understand gears in a transmission, and that my motor roars like #e!! when its cold.

I recently graduated from USAF tech school at Sheppard AFB (Famous for other reasons...wont get into that) and there was an incident where two students were racing on a road called baconswitch road. The were burning down the road at speeds in excess off 100 mph when a sudden turn in the came up. One student hit a large tree, killing him. The other car went out into a field and rolled many times ending on the roof. That person is still in critical condition after 4 months. Not to say I havent ever done this but I look with a different point of view at street racing now.

You know dodge, instead of getting on here with a name saying that most of us (dodge enthusiasts)are on here, share the same feelings about dodge. We dont need your criticism, and if your going to say something, dont just say its stupid, and people are this and that. tell us why you think what you said (even though it is in agreement of what were all talking about).
I think most of us agree that people who decide to race on public streets are inherently not very bright on most accounts, but this is also a family website, so cut the profanity - you should have a larger vocabulary than that.

I also think public street racing is dumb. My little brother is huge on the fast and furious and has his Eagle Talon all riced out. The thing can fly, but I'm sure he's racing at night on public backroads. I'm afraid to death he'll become the next racing death statistic if he doesn't stop. More young teens are dying from losing control of their cars at high speeds from racing. Movies like the fast and the furious only promote this, making ricers and street racers "the thing to be." Yea, kids should be smart enough not to do what is in the movies, but from watching my brother and his friends, how they act and drive is all based on this movie. That's why I am really annoyed with the ricer and import movement. It seems like you can't even pull up to one without him trying to race you. Ricers and street racing are becoming rather popular here in the part of Michigan I live in, and Michigan is the worst state when it comes to road conditions. Potholes everywhere!
For you fellow Dakota owners who race, keep it on the track where the true racers go. Don't try to race the ricers (or any other car for that matter) when they come reving up to you at the stoplight. Not worth the risk.
Just my two cents.

Wow... What a disturbing scene. Speed kills.. These kids don't get it. Wow, I'm in lawenforcement and that was one of the gruesomest scenes I have seen.

That is pretty bad... it doesnt look like those were kids tho. Young adults maybe, but i dont care who, their not going to let their teenager have their Ferrari. Looks like they were being stupid not only on a public street but on a busy street as well... i guess anywhere is dumb, but that takes the cake.
