Subject: Ceramic pad opinions??
IP: Logged

Message:
I did a search on ceramic pads and found several posts from people whom had recently installed or were planning to install ceramic "low dust" brake pads.

Does anyone have an opinion of these pads after substantial use - say more than 15,000 miles?

I'm about ready to replace pads and am considering the Raybestos - Quiet Stops.

Thanks

I've heard that ceramic pads are really harsh on your rotors, I guess something has to give and if your pads hold up a little too good then your rotors will take the abuse. Just use the plain pads. (I'm sure some one will help with a brand name)

I had the ceramic pads and Slotted and drilled rotors installed. I have not had them Long though so I can not give you the info you want for 15k's worth of use. They seem to be cleaner as far as the brake dust on the rims goes. Quiet as well.

Bill if you use those pads with your stock rotors you may but them at risk of warping and cracking. But they are nice about not leaving so much of a mess.

I thought the ceramic pads might produce less dust as a result of their material composition RATHER than them being so much harder.

However, I don't want to have less dust at the expense of ruining my rotors. Maybe I'll have to to continue to constantly clean these wheels!!!

forexfour - How long have you had the ceramics? Would you please elaborate on your experience with/opinion of them so far?

I have had the ceramic quietstops with powerslot rotors for about 7,000 miles now and and I still love the set-up. almost zero brake dust and good stopping power, and unlike my stock rotors they aren't a piece of crap!

I concur with dbbaker! I have had mine less miles. the funny thing is that I went to wipe down the Rims after a couple of days and I did not need to. When I had my brakes replaced, my mechanic asked if I wanted the OEM brakes. I just asked if there was something better and he hooked me up with these. I had no idea what I was getting but I am very happy.

Side note. After going to Pismo and getting slammed by a about 2 foot of ocean water, I had to do a complete fresh water wash. I used the 2750 psi power washer and as my mechanic told me to, I really sprayed the crap out of the wheels and brake area as well as the rest of the underneath. I notice that as the pads were drying I was getting some squeeking but now there is none after a day of getting a real good dry out.

The slotted and drilled rotors keep pretty cool.
