Message: Well after the Moab trip. The exhaust sounded different. Now I wont claim to be a genuis on exhaust systems. But I'm guessing it may have something to do with hitting it with a rock and the large hole in the muffler's intake. That appeared to be ripped from the intake tube.
So oops.
My guess is it cannot be repaired. And will require a new muffler. It has duals coming out the back of the muffler (I bought it used and don't know which system it is). So when I take it in to Midas or Minekee on Monday what should I look out for?

Message: First of all, I wouldn't take it to one of those national chains that hire you as long as your body's warm and you can hold a wrench in one of your hands. Sorry I sound so harsh, but I've had friends that have had some pretty bad luck with those kinds of places. I always look for a place that's been in business for 20 years or longer where the business has been in the family, etc. They don't charge any more than the chains and they do excellent work in most cases.
I don't know what to tell you to look out for. I would probably shop around and see what the best bang is for the buck if you're looking for cheap. There's a lot of dual exhaust systems out there. I wouldn't go much bigger than 2.5 to 2.75 inches in diameter.

Message: Nick, Ron has a point BUT I had my exhaust done at a Meineke. I watched them install a full system on a Camaro and they were very thorough. I had them weld in my Flowmaster, they cleaned the joints, fabricated a J-hook mount, welded it in, checked for leaks and then painted everything they had just cleaned so the bare surfaces did not rust.
Meineke's in my area stock a large quantity of Flowmasters so chances are they have a single in, dual out that is a direct replacement for yours. Do some shopping around and watch the technicians for a while (if it has stopped snowing in Denver!)

Message: Kevin and Ron are both right. I have a favorite shop in my area that I can trust. Chain stores are as good as their techs. I wouldn't go any smaller than 2.5.
