Message:
Picked up my factory-ordered Dak yesterday, and here are the initial findings :

1) MISSING hood insulation.
2) MISSING center-console and ashtray lights.

These are listed in the DC 2001 brochure as being included with the SLT package. Dealer says that they are "mid-year exclusions" to cut production costs, and that it is MY responsibility to call DC to complain, but I maintain that they are in print, and that if they are going to exclude items mid-year, then at the very least, the dealer should make the buyer aware of this (and exclude a few $$$'s, while they're at it).

3) Color-keyed fender flares (special ordered) did NOT arrive with the truck, as promised.

Dealer said that it only takes "a couple of days" to get them (maybe he should have ordered them when he took my $$$ and ordered the truck, eh?).

4)Passenger door DOES NOT OPEN with inside handle.

5) Right wheel/tire sticks out 3/4" more than the left (unbelievable).

I haven't addressed # 4 and #5 with the dealer yet, but I imagine he'll have a ready-made excuse.

All in all, these are MINOR problems (with the exception of the off-center rear-end), and I'm beside myself with the look and feel of my new "wife".

My only regret to date is that I opted to go with the geographically closest dealer (McPeek's in Anaheim) instead of the much-more professional Cerritos Dodge. Oh, well....

Actually, Fullerton Dodge is the best in terms of service for our trucks. In terms of mods and maintaining warranty with no hassles you should switch to Fullerton Dodge soon.

For me, Barwick (San Clemente) was the dealer I bought from because they belong to www.autobytel.com and that gave me the biggest discount.

The off-center rear-end is normal. I think #5 is true on mine too but you can't tell as much with the flares on and the bed is perfectly aligned with the rest of the truck.

Mine came with hood insulation, hood light, and ashtray light. Hmmm...I don't know about center console light. I'll have to check. Of course, mine's a 2000. Night and day differences. Oh well, just thought I'd mention them. I'd like to see your truck sometime.

Ron and Kota : My e-mail is : broeheemv8@earthlink.net

I'll show you mine if you show me yours (he he he..)

Ron : The off-center rear is out of control - VERY noticable. I'll look again when I put the flares on, but you'd think that they could get THAT right. Also... how do you switch dealers when it comes to service? McPeeks sux so far, and I have little hope that they'll improve. I'm CLOSE to Fullerton.

Kota : Love info on your meet. I won't be doing any radical mods to my "wife", just minor tweaks to an already "betchen" truck. Send photos, though... 20's gotta look "tits" (and now there's even 23's)

There's not trick to switching dealers. Just start bringing your truck over there. Tell Tony I sent you. I know a lot of the mechanics and all the parts guys over there.

After reading this post, I checked for the hood insulation and the light. Not there. I've had my special orderd QC for two weeks. I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday to have the areas that were sadly painted fixed. I suggest you guys with the brand new Daks take a close look at the paint job.Mine had over spray black from the fender well on the white finish as well as the leading edge of the bed, just behind the cab, had bubbled paint.

I would take it back. It's pretty hard for the dealer to say you put the sand in the paint. Sometimes with scratches and stuff you have to tell them right away otherwise they say you did it. I would get them to fix it even it means a new paint job.

python, I know what you are talking about,is your truck white? Mine is, it looks like someone took sand and sprayed it on my truck. I took it to a dodge dealer, hoping to get a free paint job, and I was denied. They said it was fallout (like from trees, road grime, and just plain dirt). It shows up verry well on white cars (any make and model, my friend has a ranger that is white and its on his truck too). Use meguiers claybar it works GREAT! it takes all of the sand looking stuff out of the paint. you can buy it a pepboys or autozone. latter

So what is the deal with the off-center rear ends? Is there an easy fix? Do they cause any harm? Will they interfer with future alignment issues? This kinda bugs me too! I'll definitely be on the look out for all the QC issues being addressed on this list when my new '01 QC SLT gets here in the next few weeks. I think there is going to have to be some new dealing with the dealer if all these issues show up on my new truck!

It's not a bug. It's a feature. That's the way they come. There's nothing wrong with them. Believe me, I would know. I've outcornered F-bodies with my truck and there's no problem... except for my tires. ;-)

ERIK-
Can you tell me more about the 3rd Saturday meetings? I live in Long Beach and am interested in chatting with some SoCal folks about my Dak.

Also do you know how to find the original specs on a Dak that was purchased used? It looks like I got the offroad package (tires/handling) but would like to know the full story...

Still checking on the mtg. May not be one this month. Waiting for answer.

As for your options, the easiest way is to go to your dealer. They can input your VIN into their system and print out an options list for you.

When I picked up my new truck, the Tach, battery charge/discharge and oil pressure were inop. They had to swap the entire gauge console for a new one.

On the bright side, I had 63 miles on the truck when I brought it in for repair. When I left, I was back to 7 miles (they cannibalized another new truck's gauge console)
