Message: This is for all of you guys with modified throttle bodies. Did any of you see any kind of mileage increase? I know the throttle bodies are great for performance but I dont want to get less mileage than I already do. Also, has anyone ever done their own porting of a tb? How did it turn out, I can get a hold of a stock one to modify and was thinking about taking off the air horns and such. Not porting it out but just smoothing out what is there. Do you think this is a good idea or should I just put the time and effort into getting a ported one from Fastman?
Thanks

Message: I've got a 68mm Fastman TB. I love it. I may upgrade to a 71mm in the future for kicks. I did get a little mpg better with the TB. I also have a "3 360intakez (the new ones are 3.5"), 180t-stat, and 3923's. I'm probably going to get my carsound cat put on tomorrow. The TB cost me $200.00. Dan Arcand (the fastman) is a great guy who does good work.

Message: I did my own machining on my TB and I think it turned out to be acceptable. I have been told that it takes a lot of time to port with a Dremel, but with access to a milling machine it took me only a few minutes to take the air horns off. The actual porting took more time due to the difficulty of setup(why did they have to cast such horrible holes in it to begin with?) but once I got it set it was pretty strait forward. This might not help you at all, but it's what I got at the moment.

Message: Dakota Dan has a V6, but he "ported" his V8 TB himself and smoothed out the torque steps. I think that he reported positive results. I looked at his pics on his website, and it looks like he did a decent job. I went ahead and bought an F&B TB, since I was able to get one for just $100 over the price of a Fastman or a new OEM. I could also keep my stock TB this way, which I liked.

With a 5.9 it sounds like your happy with your performance your just tring to get a little better MPG ?
You might look into reducing friction with Roller Rockers 1.6 for MPG or 1.7 for Performance.
CROWER POWER
As for the TB porting I didn't see any less MPG I get 17-18 most of the time and 22-23 on all highway running 70-80 mph

Message: Yeah, the performance is plenty for me, I love having all of that torque on demand anytime. I would like just a little more top end though, that is why i am thinking of taking a used tb and taking the air horns off and smoothing everything out without actually porting, I hope to gain a little top end without losing the torque.

Message: How much improvement do you guys see with these. I am thinking about getting a new one but don't know much about them. I have a 97 5.2L 4X4. What would be a good size to get? Should I get the size that comes with the 5.9L or are they the same? Sorry for so many questions, but I am trying to get better performance out of mine but and am really a beginner when it comes to stuff under the hood.

Message: blk_dak, i am kind of wondering the same stuff as you. i was told by a couple of sales people the best tb to get for a 5.2 or 5.9 would be a 50mm, unless it is heavily modified, then get the 52mm. I wanted to hear what the rest of the guys with them thought, that is why i started this post.

Message: I did not notice any increase/decrease in mpg improvement when I installed my 52MM Holley.
I believe it may have created a slight loss in the lower end. It made a significant improvement in upper end.
