Subject: Hypertech Power Programmer III
IP: Logged

Message:
I just saw in my latest issue of Sport Truck that the Hypertech Power Programmers are out for the Dodge trucks.

Has anyone tried it yet? I am running a 2000 RT CC and the guy at Hypertech said that gains for my truck are only 11hp and 15 ft/lb. All for $435! Does not sound worth it.

Feedback please. Should I throw away my Jet chip for this or what? Thanks

Sell your Jet Chip and put the funds toward a computer flash from B&G Chrysler. Get an M1 intake manifold and get the M1 flash. Will greatly improve your truck's performance. Major top end gains.

It's worth it, for people like me that need more than 4800rpms rev limits, I get so much more power out of my cam by shifting with the column rather than the PCM shifting at 4800rpm. I need 5400-5500 rpms:)

So for a stock setup, yea maybe $400 for 11hp 15tq might not be the best part option for you yet.

Josh,

Put the JET CHIP down and move away fast. It robs the 5.9 of 4 to 10 hp.
So if you get the Hypertech you will see about 20 plus HP (as long as they don't measure power like JET) compared to what you have now. I really wouldn't get one myself, I would get the MOPAR PCM. Take off the JET CHIP a put on a MOPAR PCM (which is cheaper by the way) you will see about 20 HP gain. If you do anything other than MOPAR PCM get the UNICHIP. Read here about it, it is a dyno tuned chip and can be used on another vehicle later. I hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to remove my Jet chip this weekend and see. I am also gonna remove my MSD ignition; I think it was robbing me of power...

Josh,
I have been told that the 2000's are optimized on spark and fuel and that an aftermarket ignition will not help power. It may improve throttle response, mileage, or idle quality, but not power. Just letting you know this. You may right about the MSD robbing you of power.

Yeah, I noticed about a year ago that when I installed the MSD that the mileage went down. I figured I would give it some time before I pulled it...

Thanks Troy

Listen to Yates! Mopar still made the PCM for 2000 and that is the best cost to HP comp. there is. I had the JET before I came to my senses. I called Hypertech when I first saw that article. I was not impressed with their numbers. They only raise the RPM limiter 500rpms and the top end limiter to 125. Mopar goes all the way to 6000rpm shifts at 5200 and there is no speed limiter. Mancini racing has the Mopar pcm for $280 ($145 less and you get more).

'99 RC Dakota R/T, Gibson Headers and Cat-back, MSD 6a, BTM, IAT adjuster, Powerdyne Supercharger, M-1 4/2, Mopar PCM.
