Message: So, I was having a nasty smell coming from the air vents. Not musty, but seemed like anti-freeze, yet not quite. It was very sporatic at first, mabey 2 times a week you smelled it. I ignored it and it got Really bad!
It got so bad, that roughly 3 days a week, I would have to stop the truck and get out, the smell was sooooo bad, and I had to let the cab "air out."
I took it to the dealer, and they found that the Output Shaft Seal was faulty, and the tranny fluid was burning up and coming up thru the vents.
Well, they also found during the same time that the Rear Main Seal was leaking and the oil pan gasket was leaking.
Took 2 trips to the dealer at 15 days total in the shop, as they had to pull the tranny and give me the runaround on fixing it.
Service manager says that all the seals were a manufaturing defect and all was fixed free of charge. Claims they get alot of faulty seals from the factory. They had 8 tranny pulls ahead of mine at the time.
They also later replaced "faulty bearings" in my left hub that was causing a "popping" noise in turns.
Since all the repair work was done, I've had no problems with the truck, and I love it.
I hope I can give some insight if anyone has these problems.
