Message: My old 85 toyota died (cracked block) and I have been looking for a used truck. I looked at several Dakotas and was impressed with the power. 1st question is what is the average MPG for a 6cyl. Next I test drove a 95 8 cyl 318 SLT excab,AT power everything with 80000 miles, what might be the MPG for this truck. Finally most of the Dakota's I looked at had oil on the rear end differential, is this normal or a leak on just the ones I looked at?

Message: I have a 2001 Club Cab 3.9l V6 4x4 and I average around 17 mpg on the highway. I have the 3.92 rear axle so that hurts my mileage some, as well as having 4x4 which doesn't help. Some get better mileage, some get worse.

Message: The Gen2's are lighter, My 93 V6 4x2 5spd Reg cab got 20-22 MPG no mods. The V8's of the same year was only 2 mpg different. My opinion only, Get the v8, not much sacrifice for the power difference. As for the diff, alot of them "sweat" I have noticed. It never has been an issue for me.
I hope this helps.
